    Hey,

I'm just downloading a load of emulators then I thought what about all the games. Any ideas where I get them from?

    Thanks.

We can't host or link to roms of games here, however if you look on Reddit under /r/Roms/ you should find links to pretty much any game from past console generations.

That I'd awesome. I actually found some hard to find xbla on there too. Only got about 10 left to find now for the full collection.

So with emulators, are all emulators the same? I get a bit confused as there seem to be lots of various ones. Also are the roms generic for all emulators?

It depends on the emulator, some emulators can emulate multiple consoles / arcade machines, Mame is a good example of this.
However, most emulators will focus on one console such as Xenia which is an Xbox 360 emulator for the PC.

Usually, multiple emulators will exist for older consoles as various people / teams have worked on different projects to emulate that console over time. These emulators might also get ported to other platforms such as hacked games consoles like the Xbox.

Roms are dumps of game cartridges, ISO are dumps of CD's, DVD's or Blu-rays. Essentially the games that can be used with an emulator.

Ah cool. I think I get it now. Is there a specific place for all the emulators. Looking for Nintendo/Sega mainly. Is there a PC one? I found the Lin360 post but am unsure about it. Nobody has replied to my query on there yet.

Quick update. I just tried this and it crashed my console. It isn't .xex. Is that the problem? It is .elf I think. I noticed some others like that which also don't work.

That Sega Megadrive emulator for the 360 is LibXenon homebrew, essentially meaning it will not run from within the 360's dashboard. You need to power your 360 on with the eject button to load Xell (Presuming its Jtag / RGH hacked) and load it from a FAT32 formatted USB drive.

What might be better is RetroArch, you can load this from within the 360's dashboard: Retro Arch Xbox 360 Port like other homebrew apps, the 360 version supports the GB, GBC, GBA, Mega Drive, Nes, Snes and a few more past consoles also. It's no longer developed, however RetroArch for the PC and other platforms are. Retro Arch for the PC might actually be what you are looking for as it brings together a lot of different emulators in to one place: https://www.retroarch.com/

The emulators below are what I personally use for each console mentioned on the PC:

    VBA-M (GB, GBC & GBA): https://github.com/visualboyadvance-m/visualboyadvance-m/releases
    Dolphin (GameCube & Wii): https://dolphin-emu.org/
    yuzu: (Nintendo Switch): https://yuzu-emu.org/
    Citra (3DS): https://citra-emu.org/
    MelonDS (Nintendo DS): https://melonds.kuribo64.net/

Below are some other popular emulators, however i've not really used them recently compared to the above:

    Xenia (Xbox 360): https://xenia.jp/
    xemu (Xbox): https://xemu.app/
    Cemu (Wii U): https://cemu.info/
    PCSX2 (PlayStation 2): https://pcsx2.net/
    RPCS3 (PlayStation 3): https://rpcs3.net/
    DuckStation (PlayStation): https://github.com/stenzek/duckstation
    Snes9x (Snes): https://github.com/snes9xgit/snes9x/releases
    Gens (Mega Drive): http://www.gens.me/

That should give you a pretty good starting point for PC emulation anyway!

Thanks for all that info. I tried the RetroArch and that seemed to work nicely. When I mentioned PC, I meant is there one that emulates a PC rather than emulators for a PC. I want to find something where I can use paint and a profile mod for WWE games. Really basic stuff. Sorry for the confusion.

I use Aurora for launching, so should I avoid the LibXenon stuff?

The closest you will get to emulating a PC on the Xbox 360 is a port of DOS box, which will allow you to play older DOS based games.

You want VirtualBox to emulate an older x86 based operating system on the PC.

I am already confused with that link! Is there a particular version I need?

Just an aside. I'm not getting auto responses despite having everything checked. Any ideas?

I got a few emulators like Colecovision/Adam and Master System, but after trying them out they just crash. I downloaded all the roms for each and made a roms folder, which has worked for other emulators, but something seems to be not working right. Or am I just using wrong versions? I searched the Web for emulators but I would rather use your trusted word on ones that you recommend.

You are fully emulating a PC with Virtual Box so you actually have to create a Virtual (Emulated) PC and install the operating system, drivers, software and so on, just like you would on a real PC.
You probably want this download: https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.0.2/VirtualBox-7.0.2-154219-Win.exe

You can click watch thread at the top:

    upload_2022-11-12_9-7-7.png

You will get a Digiex notification when someone replies and an optional email notification.

I dont know about the Colecovision/Adam and Master System emulators, I've never emulated either console.

My best advice would be to try not emulate everything at once, choose one platform you wish to emulate and you will learn the basics of how emulators in general work. I started with the Game Boy as a kid, as I wanted to play a badly translated version of Pokemon Gold a couple of years before it was released over here. Most emulators you do just open the rom and you can start playing, on some you need to download the BIOS for that console and on newer emulators such as the Nintendo Switch you need to obtain the keys and do various things to play some games.

I noticed BIOS on some of the roms. I thought it maybe stood for Built In Operating System as they seemed to coincide with games that were built into the console itself, like various versions of the Master System. I realised yhat I was using ones for original Xbox .xbe not .xex. that's why nothing was working. Need to find the relevant ones first. All of those xbe ones were posted on here by someone. Need to have a look for xex ones now. I think I will try Atari 2600 as that was my first console when I was 3! Then move upwards from there. The Retro one worked fine, but I think I prefer them separately.

    .xbe = Xbox Classic
    .xex = Xbox 360

Those look like BIOS files for various consoles that might require them.

So, I have a few followup questions and some new ones if you don't mind using your fountain of knowledge.

    1. What do I need to do with that Virtual Box file. It is exe not xex. Just to inform you though as it may help. I have no PC. All I have is an Android and my RGH 360. What about this:

    https://digiex.net/threads/release-...e-linux-device-for-your-hacked-xbox360.16327/

    2. When talking about BIOS I was right when saying about built-in games. There are [BIOS] and then there are the BIOS you mentioned. I saw on RetroArch that it says some of them are missing and required. I tried some from the roms link but I didn't really know what to do from there. I did try putting them in the roms folder and launched one. It took me to the dashboard (MegaCD), but that was it. Stuck from there. Or do I put them in a specific place as it still said they were missing.

    3. Doom crashes my console. Ideas? It just goes black and freezes. It's the prboom that was included. I "may" have moved the folder and caused a problem.

    4. I tried the Snes360 emulator but found it ran Mario Kart at a faster speed. I only noticed it on that game. Is there a speed setting do you know. After finding out that I was using an older RetroArch and downloading your newer version I will be using that for most roms now, so thanks. I only really want to use this emulator now for the achievements. Which is a nice addition I thought.

    5. Linked to above, other than the Genesis Plus emulator, are there any others with achievements?

    6. On the RetroArch site it says there are other emulator extentions. Do you know of any I can add? 32X and Jaguar. I couldn't find an Atari 2600 one. Shame. I do have the Virtual Jaguar, but it seemed to crash even without trying a game.

    7. MAME. Now the version on here seems to says .72 I think. The roms I found seemed to all be higher. I'm very confused with MAME.

That's it for emulator questions. For now.

    1. You can't use VirtualBox then sadly, thats an application for the PC only.

    2. This might help: https://docs.libretro.com/library/bios/ I actually don't use RetroArch so can't be much more help with that

    3. Move the folder back and see if it then works to rule that out?

Anything else I wouldn't like to say as I don't use the 360 for emulation.

That was quite an interesting link. I need to spend some time reading a few bits on there. Ta.
On that rom link there are GameBoy Advance multiboot. Any idea what multiboot is? There are Wii roms in it.

If you power on the GBA and hold Start + Select it enters multiboot mode, essentially it will run code (multiboots) sent to it via the link cable port.

Example Pokemon Distributions that would gift you a Pokemon to the game cart in the GBA. Some games like Mario Kart Advance make use of it also to play multiplayer games with only one copy of the game.

So essentially is it for playing 2 player using a virtual link? Do I have to hold start + select equivalent still?

If you load the second GBA with no game in then i believe it just works on real hardware. Emulators i'm not 100%.
