Resident Nutter
Before you read any further its important to know Jazz Jackrabbit 2 version 1.25 does not exist in any official capacity, any 1.25 versions of the game out in the wild are fan made.
Below is an example of a 1.25 version of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 The Secret Files:
So what is Jazz Jackrabbit 2 1.25? well back in the early 2000s the Jazz Jackrabbit community was speculating if / when another patch or version of the game would be released, which ultimately never happened.
However some people in the Jazz Jackrabbit community had worked out it was possible to hex edit the version number in jazz2.exe, which then allowed you to host public servers others would not be able to join, unless they had a jazz2.exe with the same version number you had hex edited yours to.
Below - a non modified Jazz Jackrabbit 2 1.24 attempting to join a game hosted by a hex edited 1.25 version.
It can't join the server as the 1.24 version is older, so the 1.25 server is greyed out on the server list:
Back in October 2000 @Nimrod hex edited Jazz Jackrabbit 2 TSF from version 1.24 to 1.25, then packaged this up in an installer for members of the Carrot Clan (a clan Nimrod and I were both members of at the time).
The idea was Carrot Clan members could host exclusive games on the server list only people with this patch were able to join.
Carrot Clan.exe is the installer for this:
The installer will install a hex edited 1.25 version of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 TSF to your existing installation folder called Carrotclan.exe, this can co exist with the official 1.24 jazz2.exe perfectly fine. A shortcut will also be created on the desktop and a few levels installed too.
Full log of the installer:
So that's really all there is to this, I thought it was a fun bit of history to share in the Jazz Jackrabbit archives and a little insight in to what teenagers were getting up to in the year 2000 when playing Jazz Jackrabbit 2!
The Carrot Clan.exe installer had lived in my original Jazz Jackrabbit 2 install folder for over 26 years, so now its shared here.
Below are downloads of the hex edited 1.25 jazz2.exe, the Carrot Clan installer and the levels the installer includes, so you don't have to run the installer if you don't wish to.
