It was yesterday that Major Nelson announced a new preview program for Xbox users to sign up for. Well in that post, he stated that is was for an updated disc format to be used by the Xbox 360.
People let the rumors fly once they read that, stating that the 360 would be getting a blu-ray drive. Even more crazy were people saying the long dead and gone technology that was HD-DVD was making its comeback. Well none of those crazy speculations were true.
Sources today have stated that indeed, the new disc format will be used to combat piracy, and actually add to the overall size of the disc. Adding up to 1GB of storage space for devs to use. So those of you who signed up and get selected into the program will receive Halo:Reach which is believed to use the new anti-piracy format.
It is a never ending battle with those scummy pirates, and this is just the next step Microsoft must take to try and combat these pirates. Don’t think though that this new format is the end all be all way to stop pirates though, because one has already taken to the internet and spoken about this new disc format.

there will always be rumors like that but come on anyone with half a brain should know that HD DVD is dead and the 360 doing bluray ya right you think SONY really wants to give rights to Microsoft to do bluray player in there game system.

It will make things a lot more difficult for people with flashed consoles, however as Jtagged consoles can read the discs still so can easiy to dump the contents and happily play away off the hard drive. Obviously this could easily stop mass piracy of new games for quite a while on flashed consoles, however i'm sure it will only be a road block that will be over come.

The HD DVD is dead, Sony would be proper fools to even think about giving rights to use Bluray! If anything, what was said above was right, "...only be a roadblock that will be over come."

It would be very bad if this update detected any flashed dvd drive and banned the console instant.

If this would happen i suspect people will switch to ps3.

Im sure microsoft has something that with the new format (sounds like them) I don't really see people switching to PS3 just because of that or they would have already done it ;) I think the new format is going to be a format we cant reburn to disc at home. I know I signed up with my unmodded console lol maybe i should have used my modded console because it has a samsung drive :)

At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I really need to say that you'd have to be kinda stupid to sign up for this with a flashed console, or any other modified console for that matter since, you know, this update is specifically combating piracy. It's common sense to wait before you update.

I don't have a flashed console.I never said i had one.

also about switching to ps3

the pirates that flash/dl games know the risk plus ps3 can easily detect jailbreak also now with the detection coming from anywhere in the psn network

also kinda stupid that you know ur gonna get banned but go on live
