State a commonly used website, that either has poor privacy or collects a lot of data and a website that is an alternative that is has better privacy and collects less data. Explaining why would also be helpful.

I'm looking for a few in general but nothing really specific, I just wanna know what's out there.

Google and Facebook are the big two when it comes to poor privacy and collecting a lot of data. You can't really avoid it though, even if you never visit Google or Facebook, other websites use services from Google and Facebook. (although some web browser plugins can certainly help in this respect) Your essentially tracked across the internet and all the meta data collected on you can eventually be matched up to something associated with you, even if they don't know who you are at the time.

For some examples:

Email wise you could use Proton Mail instead of Gmail, however if everyone else your sending email to uses Gmail then its pretty pointless in my opinion as Gmail scan your messages to serve relevant adverts to you. However if you get family / friends to use Proton Mail then as far as email goes your more secure than the average person.

WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, certainly outside the EU their is data sharing going on there. So Signal would be a good alternative to WhatsApp, as their focus on privacy and don't care about making money from your data.

I'd say if your concerned about a certain site, read in to more of what that site does with your data and if your not happy research an alternative.

For example if you read the Digiex Privacy Policy you can see what we do with your data (we have no commercial interest in your personal data) however are honest about using services from Google and what data Google can potentially collect from that.
