Sony's 4.01 system update for the PSP-1000 and PSP-2000.
Most people will want this for the 4.01 M33 custom firmware, whose installer needs Sony's update to work from. Take EBOOT.PBP out of the zip, put it in the root of your memory stick, rename it 401.PBP and run the M33 installer. If your PSP isn't running custom firmware yet, you'll need Pandora first.
To install it as a normal update instead, open the PSP folder in the zip and copy the PSP folder inside it to your memory stick, so the file ends up in PSP/GAME/UPDATE. Then plug the charger in and run it from Game > Memory Stick.
Download:
Download PSP Firmware 4.01
Sony's updater only goes up. A PSP already on 5.00 can't go back to 4.01 this way.
Newer version: PSP Official Firmware 5.00
