Is it going to be a touchscreen 3DS killer

in a PAX 2010 interview concerning the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick made it known (was it a slip of the tongue?) that there is a PSP2 under development currently, where a prototype unit is residing at Netherrealm Studios.
“We’re not launching day one on all consoles like that. We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we’re looking at the engine, like what can it support. Always a big thing for us is the performance. We’re running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We’re definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it’s a pretty powerful machine. We don’t have a 3DS system in house yet, but we’re looking to get one, and we’ll certainly look at what its power is.”
Sounds good to me , fingers crossed its not publicity stunt.

Agreed i hope it kicks the 3DS's ass to china (not racially motivated) The TIME HAS COME FOR THE RISE OF THE PSP'S!

I'm interested to see what it can do, I think the future of mobile gaming is actually on mobile phones though.

When you think we have touch screen mobiles phones with screen sizes up to 4 inches, processors at 1ghz+ Bluetooth, WI-FI and more.
Phones are also more aware of there surroundings than ever with stuff like GPS, proximity sensors, digital compasses, light sensors and g sensors.

When more games start using stuff like that we could see some really interesting mobile games, ofcourse the PSP2 could easily do all that... a phone is still something a lot of people carry about without even thinking about, where as you have to think about taking a games console with you.

cfw all the way... If this console is around 100 pounds then i mite buy it. anything above its just not worth it since xbox 360's are also around 100 pounds and 360s are better. :)

I really loved the PSP when I first got it, It was definitely one of the best portable hombrew devices. I would be also willing to get a psp2 if it comes at a nice price. It also needs to have some awesome games on it at launch like the 3DS has.

Mobile Phones could get pretty far with gaming but with the lack of buttons, so many different phone models with different clock speeds with different limitations and lack of game developers on the phone this probably won't happen. Obviously the big developers will go for the PSP before they go for a phone.

I may pick up a PSP2 when they come out and never even mess with it, i'll leave it at the lowest firmware possible and see what exploits may arise.

Sony has once again shot down rumors that a new PSP is in the works. Following earlier reports that the Japanese electronics giant has already started demoing the next iteration of its hand held to select developers at Gamescom
