Viewpoint: Would capital punishment for all crime stop crime?

Just wondering what everyone's viewpoint on this statement is:

"If every crime was punishable with death by gunpoint including stealing and rape, crime wouldn't be committed. Nasty people would be dead, and reasonable people wouldn't dare commit a crime knowing the punishment, hence utopia would exist with no crime"

Nope I dont agree with that, more discipline in needed at a younger age, in schools and at home. A lot of kids have no respect for anything these days. When our parents where in school the kids feared the teachers, it wasn't the other way around.

A lot of people go though school messing about, leave with no qualifications then take the only option they can and make money from a life of crime.

I agree and I disagree with the statement. First of all, capital punishment hasnt worked out all that well in America where they have the most violent criminals in the Western World. Then when you look at dictatorships in the Middle east and africa, that hasnt worked out so well.

However at the same time, the public anger around crime and punishment cannot be ignored. People dont fear the police, and dont fear punishment. If I was to smash someones car and steal it and drive it about and got caught, if I was under 18 I'd end up with a warning at most, and if I was over 18 I might end up with some small community punishment like to tidy up the park for 10 hours. (Which I then wouldnt turn up to and the crime and punishment would just be dropped).

Thats the problem, people dont fear the system, and the system has failed to deter crime. Innocent law abiding people are having to live in a broken society and put up with these lower class failing morons who are a waste of space, and its not fair on them.

Something needs to be done, theres too many wasters living in Britain, and possibly everywhere in the world. If there not going to stop ruining innocents peoples life with violent crime and theft, I can see many people adopting such strong views. I mean Iv seen people on the street that I just think "Why do they even exist, there worthless criminal shit" and wish they would just be shot and killed (thats how much it annoys me sometimes) but at the same time I believe in human rights and the right to fair trial and the chance to earn back freedoms which conflicts with the previous feeling, which leaves me confused and puzzled by my feelings.

Perhaps better measures should be taken, committing a crime needs to be feared again, and punishment needs to be better. Prison needs to be feared to, if someone goes to Prison now days they get a TV, Xbox and a comfortable living accomdation. Why? I dont get it. If you go to jail, you deserve to live behind bars with nothing but a uncomfortable bed and toilet, and basic food served.

Something is seriously wrong with society, that's my overall view point.

I disagree.

What about the right to a fair trial? With a utopia in play, people would no doubt be shot for a suspected crime. No proof. All to enforce a useless and rather ridiculous utopia.

A vast amount of people would rebel against since a thing. Myself included, mainly because I wouldn't want to see innocent people being killed over a suspected crime.

If we were to enforce this utopia, we wouldn't have a any safer environment then we do today. There may be a few less crimes committed, but only cause the majority of people who didn't rebel, would be scared of the outcome.

How can there be good without evil? How will our children go up knowing what's right and what's wrong? They would only know to be very scared of a crime, as if your not you may be shot on the spot. Our world would grow rather full of rules very quickly.

Some may believe a utopia would make them feel safer at night or prevent more crimes. Though I believe it wouldn't as we are humans not robots. We have choices! No rule book or law can stop us from making the right or wrong choices.

There are bad people in the world yes, I'm not saying we should give them a free pass. Only that if a crime was committed then jail time is in order, not death.

Murder though shouldn't be taken at all lightly. Taking a person life is a major thing, I believe that any man or woman takes another persons life should be punished. Death? Perhaps if the murderer was lying in wait.

Everyone should be given a fair trial.

I wonder though, how long would it take with a utopia in play before aurthories start shooting people for drinking, smoking, gambling, or for just being who you are.

I have to say that I believe capital punishment is necessary in some cases. I get very angry when I hear about a serious crime such as a rape or murder that is committed, and the person only gets maybe 10 years of prison time. My feeling is if you are dumb enough to commit a serious offense, you should be seriously punished, even if it means taking your life. The only problem with capital punishment is that in rare cases, someone can be wrongly convicted and punished. Capital punishment is not the answer to the failure of the justice system, but it would certainly be a better outcome in some of the cases that deserve it.
