Red Alert 3 BETA [Download, Keys and Information]

you can change the key in the registry after activation. This will enable us to play the game LAN using hamachi. If you distributed the file with a changed key, nobody can go online with it.

The key wouldn't be stored raw in the registry. That would be a little too easy, and we would've seen a crack or instructions already. The key is undoubtedly encoded somewhere/somehow, and unless you know the location and encoding scheme, you couldn't change it with a simple edit. And replacing it with random data would probably break the software, I'd assume (since again that would be too easy).

It doesn't matter if the key gets banned by EA. We can play via Hamachi.
Thats the main goal.

It does matter, because Orion has said he wants to be able to use the key. He's not going to give it to us only to have it banned.

Just so you know, the key IS stored raw in the registry. Just open regedit and go here: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Red Alert 3 Beta\ergc
BTW, you can change the key after installation and it wont break the game, in fact , you MUST change it to be able to play LAN games, because it checks the key and you cant enter rooms if there is someone with the same cd-key.

If that's the case then why doesn't someone just post their game folder and exported .reg data with a changed key? If we replace our files with those and import the .reg data, that should work for LAN play, shouldn't it?

Now we are getting to the real problem. Nobody knows what or where the "activated" files/reg data is. If we use the registery and file program some guy posted a few pages back, we should be able to see what happens at the activation. All files/reg which are changed in that moment need to be collected to see what the neccesery files are. Then we should copy them to a non-activated pc and see if it will become activated.

that could be done + the person who activates the game and exports the registries + game files, needs to take those and use them on another pc to see if it works, if so, then its fine

well i think someone did try to export some of his keys but not all because he was afraid it would affect his key.. (lavarider)

If someone posted their complete registry and game files, then yes we could compare them to a non-activated pc. Could you link to that post please?

Even simpler though, would be to take a snapshot before an activation and another immediately after, both on the same pc, then compare them, as I suggested here. That's where Orion's spare key would be useful. Simply monitor an actual activation and watch the changes.

I was refering to that post :)
Taking a snapshot just before and just after the activation was also what i was trying to say.

We got a plan. Now we need to test it. I am willing to try it on my pc and monitor the changes, but i am no professional hacker/cracker, so if anyone with some experience wants to do it, fine.

You wouldn't need to be a "professional" cracker. The person monitoring the activation wouldn't be writing any software. They'd just be running the monitoring software - taking a system snapshot, activating the software, taking another snapshot, comparing the two snapshots, and then posting the textual comparison results. The files that showed changes would need to be posted as well.

This is all well within the means of any average user here, I think. I suppose it's simply up to Orion to pick someone he trusts with his key. The person who does it will also need to have a "clean" pc, that hasn't attempted an activation yet.

ok, i can do that. Actually, right now i am downloading the monitoring software and testing it to see how it works. I already got: a good reg monitoring program : you can see whats deleted/changed/added + a file monitoring program, which does the same, but for files.

Okay, and how do we do that ?? :P

EDIT: I am going to bed now, we will see if we can get that key tomorrow to start the test.

I'll try to contact him via his profile info.

PS. I hope the activation doesn't store any encoded hardware details, cause that would be a real kink in this plan.

lavarider copied his files & registries from one pc to another that was offline and was able to play, so i dont think its hardware specific

I are here.

3 Things:
1: If anyone has got their code from IGN, you can submit that code to EAs RA3 beta website (that you would put the kanes wrath code into) in order to recive another code. thats how i got my third.
2: for future referance, im in the UK (GMT+1 atm).
3: who am i sending the key too?

looking at that, i think its dreys u need to send it to..

If someone can post a list of all the necessary files and locations of the files, I could put together some sort of writeup on how to copy an activated version of the game to other computers. The key would be banned, but you could at least use LAN play. I have a spare key that I could distribute.
