Which Japan discs did you check? Is it possible we should be looking at a different demo disc. I'm just wondering which ones you looked at. Also note that Serebii says the event started in November 2003, so perhaps we need that demo disc?
I think the range to check was late 2003 to early 2004. The one he checked was January 2004, but I think there may be different variants of the January 2004 disc. Though, InsaneNutter said he had previously looked through the JPN demo isos he had, and none of them had the distribution as a menu option. The discs that actually have this distribution as a menu option are so rare, it's likely we won't find the iso around online. Even on eBay you'd be lucky to see this disc show up, if you even know it's the right one. Luckily InsaneNutter had this variant of the disc with the distribution still intact, only disabled from menu access. If we can get it to work via GBA or iso, I don't think we really need to struggle to track down the non-disabled disc.
I've check the following discs so far, the 2002 ones are obviously before Pokemon on the GBA: Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - May 2002 (Japan) Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - June 2002 (Japan) Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - July 2002 (Japan) (D33J) Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - July 2002 (Japan) (D34J) Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - May 2003 (Japan) Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - January 2004 (Japan) - Has the distribution hidden on the disc, not accessible via the menu Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - May 2004 (Japan) Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc - July 2004 (Japan) I have a feeling we might well get lucky and find one accessible via the menu on November or December 2003. All the discs listed above are the only ones i've been able to find online to date. These are also the only JPN discs which have been added to the redump project, so i suspect other JPN disc dumps are going to be very hard to find, i they even exist at present. Unless you are actually wanting to buy the disc for your collection the January 2004 disc is good enough as it can be patched as i detailed above. Although I would love to find a disc with the distribution accessible from the menu if possible as its that bit more official.
So from the first post in this thread, if we find the interactive demo disc from japan from June 2003, than that will probably have the jirachi on it do we know of other japan distros that were on game cube interactive demo disks from japan, or were most of them gba prototype carts, or offical 2nd slot gba carts
I don't think you will find Jirachi on one of these demo discs, the distribution appeared to be quite limited if you read about the Wishing Star Jirachi distribution, as in you couldn't just walk up to a GameCube Kiosk in a shop and download one by the looks of it. That's not to say the data is not hidden away in one of the earlier JPN demo discs, sadly you wouldn't know that until finding a disc and been able to dump it. If you were looking at buying some JPN demo discs you could also search for something like Nintendo Demo on Yahoo Japan, you will notice some GameCube demos are in the results, however non around the time we're looking for. Even if one was found it would be taking a risk buying at as we don't actually know 100% if the distribution will be on there. In addition to buy from Yahoo Japan outside Japan you need to use a shipping broker service to re ship the item to you out of Japan, so that's a lot more cost to add on. Some JPN phrases that might help your online search: 月刊任天堂店頭デモ = Monthly Nintendo shop front demo 任天堂 デモ = Nintendo Demo Also if you scroll down on this site: https://www63.atwiki.jp/gamecubemania/sp/pages/12.html you can see photos of the demo discs from each month.
well good news is I found May 2003, I just can't figure out how to download it http://www.vpan123.com/ctfile/32.html CTRL+F interactive demo disc please let me know if you find out how to download it so we can check what's on there
No, only the English and Japanese BGF Zigzagoon were on these kiosk demo discs. Wishing Star/Negaiboshi was it's own unique thing at limited events, just as rare and unique as any distribution cart. For example, in the US, the PCNY distributions were done via GameCube disc at Pokemon Centers instead of carts like 10 ANIV etc, and they're all just as hard to obtain. As hard as demo discs are to find, they're easier than unique distribution discs. That's why you can find the US Demo Disc 14 and 16 occasionally on eBay, but not carts for Aura Mew or PCNY discs.
Click on the file you found to get the download link, for example this is May 2003: https://page55.ctfile.com/fs/9299055-155445600 Then click the blue icon i've circled to download: I'm currently getting 129 KB/s - 25.1 MB of 1.3 GB, 3 hours left
I'm glad you were able to start the download. I don't know why I can't. I get this message when click that button. Weird. But as long as someone is checking I guess it's fine. This site can’t be reached
If you try again it should download, I also got that error after downloading for 5 mins. It appears to be working again now. Hopefully it doesn't keep doing that as it doesn't seem possible to resume the download.
I managed to finish downloading the disc, theirs nothing of any real interest Pokemon related on it. However the entire disc is like its own little intranet. It has a list of 115 games, each with it own page, info on it, images and even a video in some cases. You can extract these pages and view them with a web browser on your PC, if you wish to have a look then i've extracted them here: http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/XQ80y9cz/file.html Other than that you can play a demo of Viewtiful Joe.
well that's good to know, at least we can add it to our list of interactive demo discs that we have checked, i'll take a look thanks
I've edited my post above and added that demo disc to the list. Given Ruby and Sapphire was released on November 21, 2002 in Japan, November 2003 onward is when the patch would have been required, so ideally that's what we want to look for. Still any we can check is worth it to see if anything is hidden away, the January 2004 (Japan) disc with the hidden distribution proved that to us.
Hi InsaneNutter, awesome find on these demos! Any chance you can upload them here on digiex.net for others to find? It seems like ctfile.com is the only site containing these demos. I'm afraid that once ctfile.com goes offline, they might be lost for a long time.
