If you want one program on your Xbox that plays your music and video and also works as your dashboard, this is it. XBMC4Xbox grew out of the Xbox Media Center, and antonic901's xbmc4xbox-redux project is still carrying it forward. It plays from the console's hard drive or across your network, and you can make it your boot dashboard if you like it that much.
Download:
Download XBMC4Xbox 4.0
You need a modded Xbox. Copy the XBMC4Xbox folder to the hard drive, for example E:\Apps\XBMC4Xbox\, then launch default.xbe from your current dashboard.
Tip: give it a folder of its own rather than copying over an older XBMC4Xbox, and keep your usual dashboard as the one that boots until you've seen this one run properly. The earlier XBMC4Xbox 3.5.3 is still here if you want to compare the two.

Note: this is a nightly build of xbmc4xbox-redux, so expect the odd rough edge.
