Digiex Minecraft Server
Digiex is now running its own community Minecraft Server
The server was created for three purposes:
- To help introduce new players to the Minecraft, by providing help and assisting from some of Digiex's experienced players to users who are new to the game.
- Allow people to play the single player game, but in a small online environment with friends
- Allow us to share with eachother stuff we have created.

Whats so special about the Digiex Community Server?
Well unlike most of the other servers out there, we have no interest in setting permissions and making silly rules or having admins in the server. The server is completely open, allowing anyone to do as they wish. However, in return we do ask to treat the server with respect, by keeping the details hidden we don't expect random people joining, but just people from the community who just want to have fun in a multiplayer enviroment.
The side effect does mean you can go over to someones building, break it or smash it down, or even mess around with the server, but we hope that people who do request permission to join, show respect. Just use common sense, if someone is making a building or underground base, sure go visit them but show respect for there work, offer help sure but don't go around ruining there stuff.
If people do abuse the system, we will have to increase the server security, and enforce user logins which means you would have to purchase the game to join (If you havent already) but we don't want to go down the line. The server is open to all the community providing you just show respect.
What do I do once in the server?
The best thing to do once you have spawned, is look for the snow island which is to the side of the spawning island, once there if you look around you will find a stone bridge with lights on it, head into the door (right click to open) and theres a pre-built underground workshop I have created, with a crafting box as well as lighting. This we like to call the starting base. Please don't build around it (as we don't want the water to come rushing in). You can use this as a safe place to build stuff, and see at night time. Usually theres monsters in the game world at night which will kill you unless you have a safe base to hide in. To help introduce you to the game, we have this one prebuilt on the server for people to use. At the moment, monsters are turned off at night while new people join us, but in the next week or so they will be turned back on, on the server. Wood is the building block to help you start building basic tools to mine, dig and so fourth, so explore the world during the day time and find some trees to cut down. What do I need to join?
You will need the Minecraft Client version 1.2.2 or above. You can purchase the game rather cheaply at Minecraft. If you purchase the game sooner rather than later, there are heavy discounts available as the product is in alpha, and the price will increase when the game hits beta, and then to full price (20 Euros) when its finished. With the way our client is configured, you can use illegal copies, however its in your best interest if you like the game, to just buy it as it will ensure you can play in our server and the many more out there.
To connect, you will need to visit this thread if you are already a power user; however if you are not a power user on Digiex yet (30 posts + 2 thanks) your still welcome to join, however you will need to send a message to Nimrod to get the connection information. This is done due to the way the server is setup, having no protection therefore we do not want to make the server public knowledge, power users have already shown they can be trusted on Digiex so don't need to ask, others just send me (Nimrod) a PM and I'll happly share the connection information if you want to join us.
I don't want to buy the game, can I just try it?
You can at your own choosing, if you download a copy from some sort of bad site you can join our server due to the way our server is setup (it doesnt check your playername, against the online datebase of purchasers), however we don't condone it. You will have to make sure its version 1.2.2 or above, and you must have your player name set to something other than the default 'player', otherwise your resources won't be saved correctly. (meaning when you quit and join another time, all your inventory will be empty). However, if you like it, please do buy it as soon as possible, as the game is cheap, and eventually the work around to join servers with a pirated copy will close and your miss out.
Can my friends join the server?
If you have friends outside of Digiex who want to play with you, we have nothing against you passing on the server details though please make sure they don't share it on to. We don't want the entire world knowing about our server, especially as its setup without any player authentication (which allows pirated people to join) which means in its current setup we cant set player permissions and so fourth. We would rather have a small community of fun players, than have a massive popular server with admins and operators and so on. Also, why not get them to sign up here and join the discussion in this thread.

Originally, there werent, but due to the way the server has grown, we have had to make some basic rules / understandings, which you can read here.
Whos hosting the server?
Currently, I am hosting the server on my Mac Mini which is setup as a Media Center in my room. Its running 24/7 and has the resources to support up to 10 concurrent players. This is being hosted on my own resources and not Digiex's so please don't abuse it. I backup the server up daily via an automated script though I hope to never have to use a backup
