Leaked Google OS Screenshots?

Mashable report an unfamiliar source has sent them screenshots, which claim to be of the upcoming Google Chrome OS.

Are they real? Who knows, but we’ll confess we kinda like them – super simple for a web-centric experience. They’ll probably turn out to be mockups from a kid in Delaware. Or pinched from an Engadget story published years ago. Or something. We don’t care…they’re cool, and we’re only gonna keep prodding GoogleGoogle until we get to see the real thing.

You know, as much as I hate to admit it, a Google OS sounds a bit interesting. It seems quite simple, but is it real? I suppose we'll find out!

Google OS is real, but apart from that little is known about it. The screenshots do look quite nice, most likley fake tho.

I'm interested. But I don't think I'd use it without serious considerations. For instance, I won't use it if it relies too much on internet access, as I'm not always connected with my netbook and I won't buy mobile internet for it as long as the prices are so insanely high. One good promise however, is the fast boot time. As strange as it sounds, any current Windows version (XP/Vista/7) takes a lot of time to boot on mobile hardware like my netbook. Not that it's such a problem though, I get compatibility back for the patience, as I don't think ChromeOS will do much more than internet related tasks in it's first era.

the os looks kinda simple from the pics but this is either fake or an early beta. Im still looking forward wit the google OS anyways

I must say I'm definitely not going to use the Google OS as I'm used to using Windows 7 and since I know that it works quite nice there is absolutely no point in me wanting/needing to use Google's OS. Also I wander if it will have a same compatibility mode as Windows has for Windows 95.etc

It’s probably based on Linux so could run Wine, this basically allows some Windows applications to run on Linux.

I want to play about with it but it certainly wouldn’t replace Windows 7 for me, Would be the perfect os for someone who just surfs the web and sends email’s though.
