Looking at PS3s

So I am planning on finally buying a PS3 next week but I have a question (it may be dumb). I am looking at the 160 GB Special Edition that comes with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. I am concerned that this bundle may have older hardware inside the console and I am wondering if it would be better to just buy a regular 80 GB console that was probably built more recently. I honestly don't know that I would need the 160 GB of storage, but I can get that same console for the same price as the 80 GB one. Thanks for the help everyone!

I always wanted to know, what can you do with the storage on a ps3? i dont think it has the Ripping Cd's functionality? Nor does it have the option to save games on the hdd?? just basic clarity hey??

Probably for downloadable content but either way, I am not sure which to get. If the hardware in the 160GB console should be fine, then I'll probably buy that one.

I think the main two hardware revisions for the PS3 are the original launch 80gig PS3 is backwards compatible with most PS2 games, however backwards compatibility is removed in the other models.

A lot of PS3 games have mandatory installs and will not let you play them until a lot of the games files are copied to your console.

You can also get the Play TV add-on to turn your PS3 in to a digital video recorder, recorded tv is going to take up a lot of hard drive space.

Linux can also be installed on your PS3 so you can use it as a PC if you wish, so I guess if you plan to do that the bigger the hard drive the better.

You might be able to store you own mp3’s, photos and videos on it too like you can with the PSP, im not too sure about that though.

What I do know is you can easily upgrade the PS3 with any laptop hard drive so you could buy the cheapest then if you ever manage to fill the hard drive upgrade it to a nice 500gb one. Sony are not fussy about the hard drive at all and have made it as easy as possible to swap it out for a bigger one.
