Some older web apps and media sites were never rewritten and still want Silverlight, Microsoft's browser plug-in for streaming video and rich web applications. Version 5.1.50918.0 is the latest release of Silverlight 5. Some Microsoft and third-party tools check for it too.
Download:
Download Microsoft Silverlight 5.1.50918.0
Extract the zip and pick Silverlight.exe if your browser is 32-bit, or Silverlight_x64.exe if it's 64-bit. Close the browser, run the installer and restart the browser afterwards.
Tip: Chrome, Edge and current Firefox no longer load browser plug-ins, so it only runs in Internet Explorer 11 or in old browser builds that still support NPAPI plug-ins.
Update: Microsoft ended support for Silverlight altogether on 12 October 2021, so this turned out to be the last release.
