Radical Muslim group warns `South Park' creators that episode could bring violent retribution.

A radical Muslim group has warned the creators of "South Park" that they could face violent retribution for depicting the prophet Muhammad in a bear suit during last week's episode.

The website RevolutionMuslim.com has since been taken down, but a cached version shows the message to "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The article's author, Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee of New York, said the men "outright insulted" the religious leader.

The posting showed a gruesome picture of Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was shot and stabbed to death in an Amsterdam street in 2004 by a fanatic angered by his film about Muslim women. The film was written by a Muslim woman who rejected the Prophet Muhammad as a guide for today's morality.

"We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show," Al-Amrikee wrote. "This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them."

I wonder if the makers of South Park was expecting some other reaction from the muslim community. This is more or less the same situation that the Dutch newspaper was in when they had a picture of the prophet with a bomb for a turban. (off topic but I lold hard when I read that danish websites were being hacked by muslim hackers because of the incident)

IMO the line between a joke and an insult is getting thinner, same goes for comedians I see on TV; most of them can't make a joke without it being at someone else's expense.

whether or not someone is offended by the joke doesnt matter, people can get offended and it shouldnt be the end of the world. south park insults everything, nothing is sacred.

the world shouldnt have to put up with the threat of violence for telling a damn joke. every TV station/newspaper/media outlet of any kind should stand up to this shit and all print/show caricatures of muhammad on the same day, just for the sake of freedom of speech.

i dont have any hatred towards muslims, nor do i really care one way or the other if theyre offended at a joke, or a meaningless picture. this reaction of violence or the threat of violence is juvenile, petty, and downright uncivilized.

i thought the bleeped out speeches were all part of the joke, making fun of the fact that the media gives in to these absurd demands. i only found out afterward that they were edited by the network, not the show creators.

i'm offended by the fact that this type of censorship is deemed necessary.

by the way, south park has shown muhammad on the show prior to the Dutch incident.

I'm so sick and tired of people always feeling the need to be politically correct when a few people are offended by something. Someone, somewhere is always going to be offended when someone makes a joke. Freedom of speech should be just that, the freedom to say whatever you want, wherever you want, however you want, and about who ever you want. What the hell kind of society are we if we get upset of a little joke, especially one on South Park. It's South Park for Christ's sake, it's a damn cartoon. The guys at South Park make fun of everyone, but you don't hear them crying about it and making ridiculous threats. Everything nowadays seems to be getting blown out of proportion.

Whether or not he is "sacred" is not the issue. The issue is how people are offended by jokes. It's not like South Park doesn't make fun of everyone under the sun. It was just time to make a joke regarding the Muslims. And in all seriousness, it's not like Muslim terrorists don't give people a reason to insult the religion. South Park, like any other comedy show, may offend some people with their jokes and insults, but that's always gonna be the case.

I also just found out the fact that it was Comedy Central who censored the characters of the show from saying the name Muhammad. The fact that I thought it was Matt and Trey who censored even the name in the second episode made it even more funnier than the last one. I'm assuming that wasn't Comedy Centrals intentions.

No religion was singled out, however radical Muslim groups don't do the religion any favors announcing death threats over a cartoon that is known world wide to be offensive...

This is one of the main reasons our respective cultures clash. There are many Muslim societies, like those in the middle east and arabic regions of the world who have very primitive and often savage views with regard to respect for women and modern day values.

I dont agree with the veil bans, people should be able to wear whatever they want. It could force culture assimilation though, which I think (assimilation) is a sign of progress. it may also be true, in some areas that this would be better for a muslim woman's safety to not be able to be singled out (and possibly targeted) so easily.

I have a big problem with a religion that says they respect women, but then force them to cover up their bodies. As for homosexuality being a "cardinal sin", you've got to be kidding. People are who they are, and that cannot be changed. Some of my great friends are homosexuals, and I don't see them as being any different than my heterosexual friends.

Religion has no right to judge others on their lifestyle. If you ask me, that pretty much negates everything that religion is meant to stand for. I'm not religious but it's my understanding that one of the core values is to accept and love all those around you as people say we are all "God's children". When people are judged by their sexuality, or other aspects of their lives, it makes the religious people sound like utter hypocrites.
