PrometheOS is what to put on your Original Xbox modchip if you've had enough of the Xenium OS. It's open source and written from scratch, with none of the clone protection that could brick an OpenXenium. Team Resurgent and Team Cerbios made it, with thanks in the readme to NeMesiS, Ryzee119 and Skye, and a pile of skins from various people (Dark Destiny made many of them).

Download PrometheOS 1.6.0

On the chip you get bank management and flashing BIOSes to banks, TSOP and recovery launching, an FTP server (user xbox, password xbox), a web interface with remote view and live controller, a file manager, HDD unlocking for OEM drives, LCD support, skins, sound packs and a couple of mini games. It also has an editor for the ini of Cerbios, the BIOS from the same teams.

Supported chips
Xenium, OpenXenium, Xecuter 3 and 3 CE, Xchanger V2.5, XBlast Aladdin/Jaffar based chips (1MB and 2MB), SmartXX and SmartXX OPX, Pythia, and Modxo on the Official Pico, Pico 2, RP2040-Zero, YD-RP2040, XIAO RP2040 and WeAct RP2350B.

New in 1.6.0
  • SmartXX and SmartXX OPX support
  • Animated XMV video backgrounds for skins
  • Modxo 1.0.17 built in, with LED brightness, SD card browsing and booting a BIOS from SD (Modxo 1.0.14 or later, FAT32 card)
  • Debug/devkit (DVT-4), CPU upgrade and Pythia support, plus automatic fan speed
  • LT+RT+Y toggles 480i/480p in the menu, handy for a 480i-only CRT
  • Autoboot to TSOP, recovery or an SD card BIOS
  • IR remote support and TR HDMI firmware support

Installing
Flash the file made for your exact chip. The wrong image on the wrong chip won't boot.

  1. Already on PrometheOS? Update from its own menu with the .bin.
  2. Modxo boards take the .uf2 from a PC for the first flash. Later updates can use the .bin from inside PrometheOS.
  3. Any other chip: run the PromTools XBE from your current BIOS or dashboard and flash from there.
  4. Skins and sound packs: copy the PrometheOS folder to the hard drive and pick them in the skin manager, or push them over FTP.

SmartXX, first time only
This one needs the case open, because you hot-swap a powered chip. If the chip is soldered to the LPC port, desolder it and fit pin headers to both chip and port.
  1. Boot the SmartXX menu, launch a BIOS and run PromTools.xbe.
  2. At the PromTools menu, with the Xbox on, pull the chip off its header, wait a second and put it back.
  3. Press Y to detect the chip (it will say it needs unlocking), then X to unlock.
  4. Flash Tools > Backup saves the original SmartXX OS to E:\PrometheOS\Backup\. Do this, it's your way back.
  5. Flash Tools > Update, choose the PrometheOS file, press X to flash and reboot.
You only do it once, since PrometheOS keeps the chip unlocked.
