PlayStation 3 60GB is one of the launch PS3 models which had the ability to play PS2 games alongside the 80GB (although the 60GB is better in every way). Since I own one I'll point out the pros and cons of it.
Design
This is one of my favourite console designs but to be fair, the PS3 Slim (classic/normal) still looks more stylish and modern to me.
PlayStation 2 Format Disc
The PS2 games that I've played on it look fantastic and if I dare to say so, maybe as much as one of those HD Collections but some did more than just an HD treatment and added more content. Games that I tried were, DBZ Budokai 1/3/IW, Zone of Enders, War of Monsters, GT Tokyo Concept, Death by Degrees and The Getaway (terrible gameplay mechanics but great idea for an open world game in London).
If it's set to Fullscreen on the Game Settings it will degrade the picture quality so I'd recommend to leave as is without doing anything to it.
Memory Card Slots
You have an SD Card reader, Memory Stick reader and Compact Flash reader, three in total. There is no PS2 Memory Card reader, as some may think.
USB Ports
PS3 60GB has four USB ports in total whereas the others normally have two, although if you're in need of more then you can always buy one of those devices which allow to connect as many USBs as you'd want.
Noise
If you play games from the HDD it won't make too much noise as it's somewhat partially quiet (this machine got upgraded with Arctic Silver 5 high quality compound) neither do PS2 game discs, but if it's PS3 game discs after a while it will become super noisy to the point it might start to annoy you. Think of a hair dryer on full power.
Overheat
The PS3 60GB was known for YLOD due to overheat, but if it's taken care of by a person who knows about it and it never had YLOD then chances are it will survive, to make things better an external cooling fan would be recommended as it helps flowing air. A cooling fan like this has three speeds, minimum, medium and maximum and a usb cable to connect to the PS3 to boot up (it doesn't run on AA batteries thankfully).
Weight
By personal experience this is one of the heaviest consoles I've ever had the pleasure to hold, the Original Xbox didn't feel as heavy as PS3 60GB. PS3 Slim and the Super Slim definitely carry much less weight and are more suitable for people who can't hold heavy items.
Do I recommend people buy one over the PS3 Slim?
No. Most people are just interested to play PS3 games on the PS3 and watch Blu-rays, though for those that want to play PS2 games as they were envisioned to then yes, PS3 60GB is the way to go (or PCSX2).
