My Windows 7 desktop, The dock at the top is Object Dock and the background is called Freshness

Tried it and for some reason my laptop didn’t like it.
It was quite fun to play with though. Just take into account you can’t knock over the bin....

Java is the most horrible thing I’ve ever had to do, this year was so much more fun without it All my Uni work is just about done, just got the final exam and practical for Cisco CCNA Part 3 to do.

I’m in my second year at Huddersfield Uni studying Computer and Network Admin, how about your self?

You do Cisco? I was thinking about doing it in my 2nd year though im not sure about the work load.

But yea im at Greenwich studying Computing as i wanted to stay nearish to home.

How did your dissertation go if you had to do one?

Cisco is a lot of work, easily the same workload of a couple of modules combined. In the first year of Uni a whole day was dedicated to just Cisco. This year we basically have to do it in our own time and haven’t really got taught anything which has made it a lot harder.

If your Uni does it right and gives you proper classes on Cisco it should be good, I would find out how your Uni is going to run it. Everyone on our course agrees Cisco was a lot better in the first year.

The dissertation is 3rd year stuff, so not had to worry about that just yet.

Ah i know that at our uni there are classes once a week where they do any theory and practical work that is all i know at the moment. Though i shall question my friend on it.

What i will probably do is see how much work i have at the beginning as it doesn’t start until novemberish. Then decide if i want to do it or wait.

I didn’t see the second year bit so thought you were in your third year, my bad ^^

So Cisco would not count towards your final mark for the year then? At our Uni we have a module called work based learning, Cisco counts for 50% of that module so there’s no choice here!

naw Cisco is a course we can choose on top its £700 to do eep but has no effect on our grades.
You have to do Work Based Learning as well O_O.
I absolutely hated that course with all the UML diagrams and such it was just so boring. Though luckily it was 100% coursework so i didn’t have to turn up by the end of it.

£700! Ouch, I’m sure we were told it cost the university about £200 per student to do Cisco... Your WBL sounds exactly the same as mine, hours of fun huh

I did better than I expected in the first year, got 3x B’s and 2x C’s, wasn’t expecting to do very well in Java but ended up with a B.

What else do you do in the first year? Your course sounds a lot like mine.

Heh i only pay 1700 for my overall course so to be honest im not complaining.

Ah we just get ours in percentages then our 1st 2nd and so on. But congrats^^ though its a shame first year doesn’t count L

First term i did;
communication systems 93%
Logical foundations 66% (maths gahhhh)

Second term ;
Qutitive methods (more maths)
Computer systems and internet technologies

Both terms;
Programming one 76% on coursework waiting for exam results though i know iv passed only needed 4 marks ^^
Work based learning
PDP.

2100 here, for a Uni in London that’s pretty good.

Cheers, sounds like you have easily passed your first year too I would hate all the maths, it’s really not my strong point.

This year I’ve done:

Databases – Oracle and a bit of PHP + MySql

Networks – Anything and everything to do with networks and a group report on computer usage policies

Prof Issues and Project Management – Learning about been professional / ethical and project management methods.

Work Based Learning 2 / Cisco – A group project to get you ready for your final year project and Cisco CCNA Part 3

Information Systems Development – Visual Basic with a bit of PHP and SQL

Management – Group presentation about management / running a company and an essay comparing Pixar to Imagi.

Not really got my results for anything yet, I’ll find out in June.

Love the Uni conversations. Sometimes I wish I had gone to a Uni instead of a Technical College in the US. But then I wouldn't have gotten an Associates Degree in Comp Sci in 50 weeks either.

What was supposed to be a 90 week course (10 weeks per subject) I tested out of 4 subject areas in order to graduate almost a whole year sooner.

Nice Bonez, Is it normal for people to graduate a lot quicker at Technical College?

From what I've gathered college in the UK is a lot different to the US.

From what I've gathered college in the UK is a lot different to the US.

The nice thing about the tech college I went to is that you only studied what you are there to study, no pre-req courses, no English, Science, History, etc.. Type courses, just, in my case, Computers and Applications.

The silly thing is that I tested out of Linux, DOS, Novell and Cisco, I could have also tested out of Windows Server and Computer Hardware, but they said I could only test out of a maximum of 4 courses, so I was stuck.

As for "graduating" quicker, I don't really know, I do know that I finished sooner than some of the people I attended classes with

Honestly I would have prefered to have attended Uni as it would have been a better experience, plus a better education, but due to family commitments, namely at the time I was the sole bread winner so had to work a full time job on top of attending class.

It was kinda fun, though, and really funny watching people that had never touched a computer in their lives learn how the whole thing works. I could have also done without Logic Gates

Not sure how the college I went to would compare to the colleges in the UK, but I would rate the college I went to would be the equivelant of TAFE here in Australia, only 20 times more expensive.
