If you've moved to Windows Vista and your Windows Mobile phone or PDA won't sync any more, this is why: ActiveSync doesn't run on Vista, and Windows Mobile Device Center is what replaced it. It lets the PC see the device, copy files to and from it, and sync contacts, calendar and mail with Outlook.
Download:
Download Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
Tip: if you do set up a sync partnership, remember that syncing makes Outlook and the phone match each other, so something deleted on one side is deleted from the other at the next sync. If the phone already syncs with another PC, use the browse-only option instead.
Update: the same files work on Windows 7. Windows Phone 7 and later phones don't use this at all and connect through Zune Software 4.8. Microsoft has since taken the standalone installers off its site.
Download:
Download Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
- Extract the zip and run the file that matches your Windows: drvupdate-x86.exe for 32-bit, drvupdate-amd64.exe for 64-bit.
- Accept the licence, let it install, and restart if asked.
- Plug the phone in by USB. Windows Mobile Device Center starts by itself. Choose Connect without setting up your device if you only want to browse and copy files.
