Swapping the hard drive in an original Xbox used to mean burning the xboxhdm boot CD and digging out a PC with a spare IDE port. Not any more! ldotsfan has wrapped xboxhdm up so it runs straight from Windows, Rocky5 has given it a proper menu, and the Xbox drive just plugs into the PC with a USB adapter.
Download:
Download Xbox HDM 2.3 USB Beta 2
How to use:
Check the drive number twice before you lock, unlock or build anything. Pick the wrong one and it's your PC's own drive that gets wiped.
If unlocking fails, try a different USB adapter. Not every adapter passes the lock and unlock commands through.
Got a drive bigger than the stock one? XBpartitioner will let you use the rest of it.

Download Xbox HDM 2.3 USB Beta 2
How to use:
- Extract the zip, connect the Xbox drive with a USB adapter and run xboxhd.bat. It asks for administrator rights, which it needs to talk to the drive.
- Choose 1 to list the drives, and make a note of which number is the Xbox drive.
- To lock or unlock the drive (3 or 4), put your console's eeprom.bin in the xboxhdm23usb folder first. The drive is locked to that console and won't unlock without it.
- To build a new drive, put your C and E files in hdm\C and hdm\E, then choose 2 to start xboxhdm and use its menu as normal.
