Copy and Extract content from an Xbox One USB Formatted Drive on a Windows PC

You could reformat it with the xbox one if you have no data stored on the drive or follow the instructions in post #15 to extract the data.

First off, thank you for making this software. Is there any chance of it getting ported to linux?

Here is the issue I am having:

I run linux and my main OS with windows running under VirtualBox.

I am able to change the drive to PC mode, log off Windows and copy files to the HD (videos).

When I plug the HD into the XboxOne, it reads the drive and I can access my video content. However, in order to use it for games and apps as well, I need to reformat again on the XboxOne.

I tried reactivating to XboxOne HD with the software but I get the blue screen. I also tried instructions in post #15 with no results.
 
Well, I did everything you advised us to do, even disabling my anti virus, but I still get a blue screen when I got for the reisnertion of the drive.

Any ideas what's causing this?
 
Transfer Xbox saved games to PC Please help me!

First of all hi! I'm just new here. And got interested in the forums when I saw this thread about transferring games to PC. My question is. does this method works on XBOX 360? I wanted to use this method of yours but I am not sure if it will be okay to xbox 360? Thanks I am using a configured USB flash drive and I wanted to transfer my games to PC for later use and I also no wantt to buy another usb flash drive... Hope you can help me :)
 
Can you use media and apps on the same drive?

After seeing this post I immediately removed my 2tb xbox one formatted hard drive from the side of my console, followed your tutorial (which was incredibly easy I might add) and began copying my movies over onto the hard drive. My question is...after copying the movies over to the hard drive and returning it to xbox mode and then re-connecting it to the console I was greeted with a choice to either start the drive as a media drive or an app drive. aka I can either play my movies from it or I can get to my downloaded games/apps but I can't have both...am I missing something here? Is there a way around this in order to get both?
 
Nope i don't believe you can sadly, it's either one or the other going from my own experiences. Presuming the media is already on your PC i find streaming it to the console the easiest option.
 
Hi guys - new to this forum and hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have an Xbox One and a laptop running Windows 7.
Just bought a 4 TB external WD MyBook.
My intent is to use the external drive for all Xbox game data, as well as a storage device for music files and movies that I can play through the Xbox.

After formatting the external drive on Xbox, I plugged it into the PC and opened Xbox One External Storage Device Converter to run as admin.
The Converter program recognized that a USB WD drive was connected, but the "Mode" column on the right of the window showed that the USB WD drive was in "PC Mode". The tutorial says that it should show the external as being in "Xbox Mode," which is why you need to switch it to "PC Mode" in order to copy files to/from the external.

But my PC wasn't recognizing the external drive under My Computer. I tried to switch the external drive into "Xbox Mode" by highlighting it and hitting "Create Xbox Drive" but my PC wouldn't let that happen.

so I plugged the external back into the Xbox and re-formatted it to try again. I even moved one of my game's save data from the Xbox internal drive to the external drive just to have some files on the external to show it's working (piece of mind, basically). According to the Xbox, all is good and the game save data is there. External working properly with the Xbox.

so, trying again, I connected the external to the PC and opened the Converter program.
Now when I hit "SCAN", the Converter program says "No Xbox One storage devices found."
My Windows PC is a little older, maybe 2010, and is likely just using USB 2.0. Not sure if that would matter here.
When I connect the external to the PC, Windows makes that notification sound that it recognizes a new device has been connected, but nothing is showing under My Computer and the Converter program can't see the external at all.

Did you run the drive converter with admin rights? Sometimes on Windows when you safely remove a hard drive Windows will not register the drive is present again until you re start the PC. Try doing that and see if the drive will then show up.
 
Same issues here with the blue screen also. Really want to use it for PC and Xbox but I guess I have to buy two external hard drives now. :-/

Use gparted to create a new partition table. Create 2 partitions. Then use this version to create the usb drive for xbox one.

Select external drive then
1. Choose: Device → Create Partition Table
2. Optionally select a different partition table type from the list
3. Click Apply to create the new partition table. The application writes the new partition table to the disk device. The application refreshes the device partition layout in the gparted window.

Hi guys! I have an issue with my Xbox One. After an update i got the GSOD and can't update or flash it by USB Stick. I believe if i had the correct updated files (or day one software) to put directly on the hard drive from my PC i can solve this problem. This thread is the closest i got to solving this problem. Do you believe this can be done effectively? Any help would be extremely appreciated.

You might be able to use this to read the internal hard drive on the Xbox One, however if you cant flash the updates from USB i think you are out of luck.
 
Switched to PC Mode and now it just restarts

Hi I switched A Toshiba 1TB to PC mode, disconnected it and now whenever I plug it back in my computer just restarts. I'm using Windows 7. Is there anyway to stop this or if I plug it into my xbox one will it re-format it. I don't really want to lose the data.

Hi, I have tried to use the conversion tool only to find that after switching my external HDD to PC mode and siconnecting it, whenever I now plug in said hard drive my computer restarts and fails to boot. Why is this? I'm using Windows 7
 
Thank you so much! I own two Xbox One consoles and have not been able to understand why Microsoft has not made it possible to plug in 2 external hard drives and copy content from one to the other!?!?

So, in order to move my whole game library of about 1.5TB, I have to copy as many games from my original external drive that I can get to fit on my internal drive, turn off/on the console with my new external in it, then wait for it to load and mount the new drive, then copy all that I can from the internal over to the new external... then turn off/on with the original external drive and wait for it to mount... and do the whole process all over again. This takes HOURS UPON HOURS to do with a huge library of content...

I downloaded this app on my Windows 8 PC, connected both of my WD Passport 2TB external drives to my PC via USB 3, used the app to switch to PC mode, unmounted/remounted, and they both showed up as available drives in my disk manager!
I simply did a ctrl+a / ctrl+c on the drive that is full of games... and then a ctrl+v on the drive that was empty... and it started copying. It is estimating about 2 hours to complete the whole copy... so fingers crossed that everything shows up correctly after the copy.

The content is moving over at speeds averaging between 85-95 MB/s... This is SO MUCH faster than the only way provided by Microsoft.

@angerwound, I've been trying to get a 4 bay drobo to work with this app, and have had limited success. When you actually format the drobo with the xbox one, it crashes, and gets very angry. I've successfuly managed to use your app to get the drobo to show up on the One, but only if I create a MBR partition. This gives a limit of 2TB, but the drobo can handle up to 6TB.

I've also tested the GPT bug on a 500gb drive, and sure enough, if I try to create a XBOX One partition on a GPT disk, the one won't recognize it. If you could work out getting this thing to work with GPT partitions, then we COULD do crazy things like get a drobo to work with an Xbox One :). I'd be more than willing to test anything you come up with. I bought the drobo with the sole purpose of using it with the xbox... not anticipating it would get very angry with it :(
