hi my son has my old sbox 360 phat one
i sent off my drive along time ago and got it flashed
currently 2.016537.0
can i just use his new orignal game to update or do i need to do other downloads first

You should just be able to update with the game fine, i'd imagine due to the dashboard version you are currently on, you already have the latest LT3 firmware flashed.
