Halo 4 to be Launch Title for Next Generation Xbox?, Gearbox again rumoured to be at the reins.

Master Chief's next big outing could herald the launch of the next generation of consoles, with rumour abound that Halo 4 is to be amongst the first wave of titles for the Xbox 360's follow-up console.

Alluded to in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, which has been thumbed by Joystiq, Gearbox is said to be working on the fourth instalment proper in the bestselling series. Gearbox's own Randy Pitchford – currently doing the rounds extolling the virtues of the studio's imminent Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway – was recently quoted as saying of the company's next project, "When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one."

Gearbox is also currently at work on Aliens: Colonial Marines, a full-blooded first person take on the film series that's proved such a rich inspiration for the Halo universe.

It sounds like a possibility to me, It would certainly help sell a new Xbox Console however if that’s the case it don’t look like we will see another Halo game for a few years... which is fine by me.

3 years between Halo 2 and Halo 3 so I think I'll be able to wait as well. People will keep playing the MP that's for sure, heck some might want to give the SP another go. Good thing about games like Halo is that they add new content to keep things interesting and I don't think it's possible to get bored of forge, well unless you run out of ideas that is.

Brothers In Arms developer Gearbox has been approached to create Halo 4 for Microsoft, according to Hollywood sources.

An insider told Variety that the Gearbox had “definitely” had conversations with Microsoft about the project – and was “very excited” by the prospect. However, they confirmed that no deal had been agreed as yet.

Told you it wasn't going to be Bungie, or even a big studio

I'm not sure this game is being treated as Halo 4, more just set in the Halo universe, a la Halo: Wars. While I agree that the next outing for Master Chief will be on the next 360, as far as I'm aware it'll be Bungie who make it, so it won't be in this game. More than likely, any spartans will provide a small character presence and will probably revolve around one other than John-117, i.e. Kelly or Kurt.
