Sammy Hajhamid / pepsipu has demonstrated a software only Tethered Jailbreak for the Nintendo Switch 2, called ns2jb.
This currently lets us run homebrew, reverse engineer and mod Switch 2 games, back up save files off the Switch, and access most of the Switch 2’s peripherals through MMIO.
What I think is really interesting is a physical harness was setup around the Switch 2, so Codex (Ai) could work on a jailbreak without requiring any human intervention.
Sammy use JetKVMs allow Codex to send controller inputs to the Switch 2 over USB, and receive video output over HDMI. In addition he mentioned a Bluetooth light switch flicker from Amazon was used to power the Switch 2 on and off, as pictured below:
Sammy has also demonstrated mods to Mario Kart World!
Have a read of the ns2jb release blog post to learn more: ns2jb is a software-only jailbreak of the switch 2 for the current latest firmware 23.0.1
SmileBASIC 4.4.9, system software 23.0.1, Node.js 22+ on macOS or Linux, and over 20 MiB free in the SmileBASIC save.
The computer and Switch 2 must be on the same reachable network.
You can currently still purchase SmileBasic, a digital only game that is the entry point for this exploit.
