Open PS2 Loader (OPL) is the open-source loader that starts games and homebrew programs on a PS2 from somewhere other than the disc: USB mass storage, an SD card in the memory card port (MX4SIO), iLink drives, SMBv1 network shares, or an internal ATA/IDE hard drive. It reads ISO, ZSO (compressed ISO), USB Extreme (ul) and HDLoader formats, and it also runs homebrew (apps) in ELF format. This is the project's current development build, 1.2.0 Beta, build 2267 (commit 4cc74ba) from 6 October 2026: the newest OPL there is.

Download Open PS2 Loader 1.2.0 Beta (build 2267)

The zip is the project's three downloads, unpacked: the standard release (OPNPS2LD, with the README, the detailed changelog, the credits and the licence), the variants (OPNPS2LD-VARIANTS: builds with and without PADEMU, the Bluetooth pad emulator, and with and without extra features) and the language and font packs (OPNPS2LD-LANGS, 61 files).

How to use:

  1. Unzip the download and copy the OPNPS2LD ELF to wherever you boot homebrew from on the PS2: a memory card with a boot installer, or a USB drive. Free McBoot, which is on Digiex as Free McBoot 1.966, is the usual way.
  2. Start it, choose where your games are (USB, network, hard drive and so on), and put them in the folders that the README describes.
  3. For another language, copy its lng and ttf files from the language pack next to OPL.

Older OPL releases on Digiex: Open PS2 Loader 0.8, 0.9.1 and 0.9.3 and Open PS2 Loader 1.0.0. Project page: github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader.
