Open PS2 Loader (OPL) is the open-source loader that starts games and homebrew programs on a PS2 from somewhere other than the disc: USB mass storage, an SD card in the memory card port (MX4SIO), iLink drives, SMBv1 network shares, or an internal ATA/IDE hard drive. It reads ISO, ZSO (compressed ISO), USB Extreme (ul) and HDLoader formats, and it also runs homebrew (apps) in ELF format. Version 1.0.0, from July 2021, was the first release to carry a stable version number.

Download:

Download Open PS2 Loader 1.0.0

The zip is the project's three downloads, unpacked: the standard release (OPNPS2LD), the variants (OPNPS2LD-VARIANTS: builds with DTL_T10000 for PS2 development tools, IGS for in-game screenshots, PADEMU for the Bluetooth pad emulator and RTL for right-to-left languages, in combinations) and the languages and fonts (OPNPS2LD-LANGUAGES-AND-FONTS, 61 files).

How to use:

  1. Unzip the download and copy OPNPS2LD-v1.0.0.ELF to wherever you boot homebrew from on the PS2 (Free McBoot 1.966 on a memory card is the usual way).
  2. Start it, choose where your games are and put them in the folders the README describes.

Highlights of 1.0.0 from the changelog: the games list is cached so scanning a device is much faster, apps get their own folders with a title.cfg each, and OPL always uses the CFG folder (no more CFG-DEV). The newest build is Open PS2 Loader 1.2.0 Beta, and the early 0.8 to 0.9.3 releases are on Digiex as Open PS2 Loader 0.8, 0.9.1 and 0.9.3. Project page: github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader.
