Do you remember the old Protracker? Perhaps not everyone got in touch with it. But many (scene) musicans did. Making music in Protracker was highly complicated but very effective.

Nowdays there is another music tracker program called Renosie
Renoise - About Renoise

It combines the power of full music editing and variety of vsti. Since version 2.1 you can connect other software like Reason, Steinberg, Ableton Live etc. to Reason (via ReWire) as slave/master. This function makes it very easy to produce fantastic melodys i.e. in Reason (using instrument resources of Reason) by using Renoise.
