BadUpdate is a free exploit for retail (unmodded) Xbox 360 consoles on the final 17559 system software, by Grimdoomer. It lets an ordinary console, with no hardware modification, run unsigned code from a USB drive. It is not a persistent softmod: the console returns to normal when it is powered off or restarted, and the exploit has to be run again each time.
Download:
Download Xbox 360 BadUpdate 1.3
This is the official BadUpdate 1.3 USB package (Xbox360BadUpdate-Retail-USB-v1.3), unchanged. It contains the BadUpdatePayload folder (the exploit stages and a default.xex) and the Content folder holding the exploit save for the game.
How to install / use:
Not included: The exploit needs a copy of the game it is built around; Digiex does not host game data. It only works on consoles on the last dashboard, 17559.

How to install / use:
- Format a USB drive as FAT32 and copy the contents of the zip to its root, so that BadUpdatePayload and Content sit at the top.
- To run something useful once the exploit fires, replace BadUpdatePayload/default.xex with a payload such as XeUnshackle or FreeMyXe (both on Digiex).
- Disconnect the console from the network, plug the USB drive in and start the game the package is built for. Follow the exploit instructions in the official project page.
- When the exploit succeeds, the payload loads. Plug the network cable back in only if your payload needs it.
