As of 24th October 2008 Yahoo Messenger for Vista is no longer available to download or been actively developed by Yahoo.

Yahoo say: “This decision will help us increase efficiencies on our team and deliver one consistent, full-featured product for all of our Windows users. Our application was based on the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) platform which we will continue to experiment with and invest in. The knowledge we gathered from developing Yahoo! Messenger for Vista will also help us improve future versions of our Windows software.”

Anyway to cut to the point you can download the standalone installer of the final version of Yahoo Messenger directly from Digiex.

I had forgotten about this actually! I remember we had trouble getting the offline installer for the final version as everyone was linking to Yahoo’s mirror which was taken down.

yes THANKS SO MUCH because of you i now have all 3 public versions

according to the yahoo blog a certain key combo will allow full access to the webcam

im hopeful someone with enough time n their hands can figure it out

if anyone wants the first two versions let me know and i can upload them

the first version the log on screen was black and different then the finial version
and u had to change the contact list color every time u logged on
and it didn't remember the last poison..as well as it didn't have voice

but it was stable..

the seciond version wasnt much diffrent then the first
except it had voice capabilities

and it crashed every so often i guess because of the memory leaks..

but its nice to see how YM for Vista was evolving..
although i want the vershion thay were demoing when thay were demoing what u can do with WPF mostly because it had web cam enabled xD

This still works today on Windows 7 SP1 anyway, randomly tested it out after seeing news of a new Yahoo Messenger been released.

The new version is still no where near as nice as this!

I have never seen this before but it looks really nice, all IM clients these days are full of bloat. The older Windows Live Messenger looks good when patched to remove the adverts and other bloat.

I would recommend using Digsby or Trillian to be honest, unless you need a feature they do not support.
