Digiex Exclusive: Xbox 360 NXE Preview Dashboard Download

PLEASE NOTE: WHEN YOU CONNECT TO LIVE YOU WILL NOW BE UPDATED TO THE LATEST VERSION WITH AVATARS! :D

You can now download the NXE on Xbox Live with Avatars onto CD/USB for Offline install by clicking here.

I’ve been asked several times if I’m in the NXE Beta and if I leaked this, no I’m not in the beta and no I did not leak this. Someone on the Xbox-Scene forums posted saying it was available on newsgroups to download which it was.

    How to install:

Put the $SystemUpdate folder in the root of a CD or USB Stick

Now with the 360 on the dashboard put the CD/USB Stick in your 360 and you should be asked to install it, if not turn it off then on again.

You cannot create an avatar until the 19th, this requires another download after you install the NXE dashboard

I have created a video to try and help those of you who are having problems:

Download Xbox 360 NXE Preview Dashboard

For those of you worrying about getting banned, this email has been going around the web, notice what’s in bold.

From that, it seems pretty clear that if the Dash is installed on another Xbox 360 not on the beta list, it just can't access Xbox Live until the 19th.

This was all caused by MajorNelson himself.

You would have thought the head of Xbox Live might know that there are countries outside the United States of America, who's time zone are not the same.

But obviously not, he posted up the "chance to beta test" the new Xbox Experience up at around 3am GMT. Now, what would most normal people living in Europe be doing at that point? Lets think about it, 3am, week day, hmmm perhaps sleeping?

Some of those Europeans had to be up early for whatever they had planned, myself having to go to University. So I was up at a respectable 7am and my RSS feed updater on my desktop showed major nelson had posted it up.

I went to the site hoping to sign up and what did I get, the stupid "Object Error" which everyone was getting, apparently based on the fact the program was full already.

So what was that, within just over 4 hours it was full? Most people in Europe didnt have a chance.

So what do we have to do? To try out the new experience we have to resort to a leaked copy, yes we cant connect to live with it. But some people love trying out new stuff and decide to take that risk. (Sadly I couldnt, due to my love for Gears of War 2). But these people who are downloading it are the fans: the fans that tell there friends to go out and buy 360's, the fans that buy tons of games for the console, the fans which are feeding money and free advertisement into Microsoft's Xbox.

And whats worse? He added two more waves into the beta program and guess what? He took it from the original flawed list. He hasnt once bothered to give anyone else a chance. What a way to thank you fans.

So lets hope when MajorNelson has got over his ego of shouting at web cams saying "HEY, IM MAJOR NELSON, I MUST SHOUT MY NAME" and accepted the fact he isnt a good replacement for Peter Moore or J Allard he might consider treating the fans with a bit more respect..

Until then, enjoy the download, 21,000 downloads and counting :)

So I'm considering updating on my 2nd 360 just to check out this update, but do we know for sure that the only consequence is Microsoft not letting us connect to Xbox Live until the 19th? Would they brick our consoles or ban us from Xbox Live entirely?

No, it will work fine. As you are performing a software update not firmware. The only bad thing about it is you must wait till the 19th to login to Live. This software update won't allow you to till then.

Can someone tell us how the game install works? Is there much difference? Do you still need the disk in to play?

You are safe, as it's working fine on my 360!

Game install works but you must still have the cd in. If you remove the cd after launching the game even though it's installed the game will still exit. That's bad for people you may have two xboxs and want to play together on the same game but with only 1 copy of the game. Hopefully they will update that. As by inserting the game you've proven ownership, so I don't see why not. If they didn't you could try a hot swapping method. Though yes if you have hard drive space then installing the game will decrease loading times!

Could you not remove the disc drive and just take the game out?
I Know it sounds stupid but , it is possible

Microsoft will allow you to connect then, only console ID’s on an approved list can connect until then.

Why ban a paying customer for wanting to get the new Xbox experience early? As for bricking consoles the only way that’s going to happen is if you pull the plug out when updating it. People would just return bricked consoles, Im sure Microsoft is getting enough returns from consoles getting the RRod.

In your 360, no it wouldn't let you remove the game disc without the game exiting. However if you've got the 360 and 360 drive apart then you might be able to remove the cd that way. Then the game would be loaded up, working and without a cd, allowing you to insert that game into another 360.

Yep I bet you could if you cut the top of the drive open or something, as long as the eject button is not pressed if the console is not accessing the disc it would think its still in. A little but extreme if you ask me but I’m sure that’s possible.

Here, you can read a little more about the game install onto a hard drive. It shows how long it took to load each game from cd to hard drive.

I wouldn’t think so, if you put your friends hard drive in your console once you have the new dashboard installed it will update your console anyway... you could always unplug your Ethernet cable until the 19th, it’s not like you can use that console to go on live until the 19th anyway if you update.

What type of things do I need to have to install this on my 360?
I tried a disk, but it didn't work. I will have to wait until tomorrow until I get my Flash Drive. I don't think it will work then either. Can you help me out on my Disk problem?

Look at the image in the first post, on your CD/DVD there should be a folder called $SystemUpdate with the file inside, burn that as a Data CD/DVD and follow the instructions above. I basically had the files on my usb pen as shown above, put it in and the 360 and it asked me to install it.
