Fourteen years after launch and Sony are still putting out PS3 updates, which is more than most consoles get. 4.86 arrived at the end of March 2020.

How to install:
The same USB stick works from the Recovery Menu if the console won't boot.
On HEN? Wait until HEN supports 4.86 before you update. Sony's updater only goes forward, so there's no coming back.

How to install:
- Format a USB stick as FAT32 and copy the PS3 folder from the zip onto it, so you end up with PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP.
- On the PS3 go to Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media.
- Leave it alone until it's finished. Don't switch the console off halfway through.
