Can i use any heatsink on any cpu?

hi just woundering can i use any heatsink on any cpu because im bulding a new pc and theres not allot of motherboards on ebay that have both cpu's and heatsinks so im woundering does it matter which heatsink i use on it ? Thanks

Yes it matters, different processor sockets are different shapes and sizes so the connections on the heat sink will not align up correctly with the motherbaord.
