Ford Audio Bluetooth / USB firmware update - November 2012 release - How to update

Hi I registered to thank you for the update and tutorial. I have a 2011 Focus and every time dat my galaxy s7 edge established connetion with Bluetooth (Bluetooth audio. Connection error) and on display no battery and signal status, my biggest problem dat wen calling with Bluetooth i can hear person end on the oterside nothing. Ford dealer asked me 70 euros for diagnostic + I think for update, and I have to leave car for 1 day. After update evrifing works fine and faster. Sorry for English T9 A GREAT THANK YOU ✌

I also have one question.... I also have Ford Focus Mk2, 2009.... but WITHOUT USB.
Is there a solution for this "problem"?
I have Blaupunkt NX radio.. with SD slot?
Is there any possibility to update over SD?

I'd suggest following this tutorial, however for anything that which says "USB memory stick" simply do it with the SD card, hopefully it will let you update the same.
 
Hi Folks. I am doing this exactly as described but when I insert the usb stick it says read error for about 2/3 seconds then says initalising and stays that way without ever changing to updating. anyone got any ideas?
 
The picture you show - I have the same unit - but where is the usb socket?? Certainly not on the the front - am I missing something?

Have the same issue as you mate. Have tried the process numerous times on numerous different usbs and just get to the initalising screen. My unit wont connect to Bluetooth but intermittently connects to aux before dropping out. This has only started happening in the last week. Before that everything worked fine.
 
It shouldn't do, its just something that's easily overlooked and could have been what was causing the error. My Macbook Air likes to format to exfat by default.

Only other thing i can suggest is try a different usb drive, i remember someone had no luck with a usb 3.0 drive, however an older usb 2.0 drive worked perfectly. It should't make a difference, however it did.

Hi,

I have a Ford Focus Tit X with a build date of July 11 and had to replace the display screen. Since I've done that I've had no Bluetooth, voice activation and limited USB capabilities so was really pleased when I found this guide. However, I've now tried three seperate USB sticks, the last of which was a SanDisk USB2.0 with 4gb of memory and it still isn't updating.
I used a Sandisk 8gb first and it was initializing but there were no files and didn't then look as if anything was happening. Tried a Phillips 16gb disk and it said it was incompatible. Lastly tried the 4gb stick and it said no files but again nothing happened.
Formatted as FAT32 and copied exactly as it says dirextly onto the stick and not in any folders so can't understand why it isnt working.
Any help at all appreciated!
 
Just wanted to say thanks for this! My music was quite crackly, so I'm delighted this has fixed it.

I had no luck at first with an 8GB USB so tried a different 2GB USB and it worked. Don't think either are USB 3.0, so don't believe that was why the first didn't work. The 2GB USB I chose different settings when formatting to FAT so maybe that was it.

For anybody wondering I did it on a MacBook running MacOS High Sierra and formatted it to MS-DOS (FAT) under the Master Boot Record (not GUID). Doing this and following the instructions above made it work first time.

Also make sure you have the radio on specifically (not just the head unit itself turned on).

Bought a Ford Focus 2009 recently and just tried to update the audio software using our tutorial.

All went good, up untill the point of actually updating :)

What happens: when I turn on the ignition, for a split second it seems to start updating but directly it shows an error messGe stating the update didnt work, please try again. And that message keeps appearing when I retry the process.

Any thought?

Question: does the nov2012 release includes all features of previous releases or I have to install the updated separately one by one?

I’m using Ford Focus 2018 model

I did all the steps exactly the the way you said but it was taking more than an hour my battery is about to die so i just turned off in middle of it.

After that whenever I turn on the device it always shows “update running please wait”

Is there any solution to solve this problem

Pls help me if you know something

Hi guys,

I recently bought my first car, a ford fiesta titanium 2008 and I can't connect my Bluetooth via my Sony XZ premium to play music. It connetco for calls but for music, I need to use the AUX. I've followed the advice via updating on a USB stick formatted to fat32 and with the correct files on the USB drive, however when the drive is plugged in, it briefly says "Update running" but then immediately says "update failed, please restart update".
Any help would be massively appreciated,

Also, these updates improve iPod reliability and compatibility and allow the audio to be transmitted over USB in order for the audio system's DAC to decode it instead of having to have the 'aux' lead attached at the same time.

The illustrative photo in this guide shows me performing the update to my 2010 Mondeo's Ford/Blaupunkt NX touch-screen nav system, but it works with any USB-capable audio system (for example the Sony 6 CD/DAB unit) in any the vehicles listed below.

This tutorial applies to anyone who owns one of the following vehicles and build dates, with the bluetooth and USB audio interface. If you are unsure of your vehicle's build date, check by looking it up at www.etis.ford.com.

C-Max - February 2008 to January 2012
Fiesta - July 2008 to December 2011
Focus - February 2008 to January 2012
Galaxy - September 2008 to January 2012
Kuga - February 2008 to January 2012
Mondeo - September 2008 to January 2012
Ranger - From April 2009
Transit - From June 2009

Preparation:

1. Download the update from here: Download Ford Audio Bluetooth / USB firmware update - November 2012 release

2. Format a USB memory stick, ensuring the file system is set to FAT32

3. Unzip the contents (all 21 items) of the zip file you just downloaded, and copy them to the root of the memory stick, i.e. without placing them in any folders. The contents of the memory stick should appear as below:

Now, head to your car, unlock it, get in, and follow the steps below carefully:

1. Make sure your climate control is completely switched off to avoid the blower fan running which will cause the battery to drain faster. It's probably best to do this update after the vehicle has been driven for around 15 minutes or longer, to ensure the battery is freshly charged. If you receive low battery warnings during this procedure, it may cause the audio system to shut down and the update to fail.
In reality you should be absolutely fine, and my battery is probably just past its best (yes, I received a 'low battery' message when I did the first update), but it's worth being cautious!

2. Switch on the radio WITHOUT turning on the ignition

3. Insert the memory stick into the USB socket

4. If nothing appears on the screen, switch to the AUX/USB input. You will then receive a message stating that there are no media files on the device.

5. Now switch the ignition on but do not turn the engine on. If you don't have keyless start, turn the key two clicks to turn the ignition on. If you do have keyless start, press the button WITHOUT depressing the clutch (manual) or brake (automatic).

6. Now the radio should initialise and perform the update. It will display "Update running" (or words to that effect).

7. DO NOT switch off the ignition, or switch on the engine during this time. The update will take up to 20 minutes to apply, and it feels a lot longer if you're sitting watching it! Now would be a good time to make a cup of tea.

Once the update is finished, you will receive a confirmation message on the display briefly, and then it will switch back to radio playback. Power off the radio, then power it back up again and check the USB and Bluetooth functionality.

At this point, you're all done!

A big thank you Howard! Now in 2018 it is still needed to update a Ford S Max from 2012 . The Bluetooth was not working since 1 year now but I am a very happy man again.
Small advise for people abroad: change the language setting into English or German and start searching the Web with the error message you see now. This Will give you more hits than with the Dutch language like I did.
