Before you blame the game, check the TV. CrunchBite's HDTV Test Application puts proper test patterns on the screen from an original Xbox, so you can set up a picture by eye, and there's a surround sound speaker test as well.
Download:
HDTV Test Application 1.8
You get SMPTE RP 219:2002 75% colour bars, EBU 100% colour bars, the Philips PM5544/5644 pattern, a fine greyscale pattern, a colour gradient and a black and white vertical gradient, and solid black, white, red, green and blue. There's a dolphin too, which we can't explain.
Tip: 720p only works if you have the Xbox's HD component cable, so don't worry if White does nothing on a standard lead.

- Copy the HDTV_Test_Application_1.8 folder to the Xbox hard drive with FTP, for example to E:\Apps\HDTVTest.
- Start default.xbe from your dashboard (UnleashX, EvolutionX, Avalaunch or XBMC4Xbox). The other two files, default_debug.xbe and default_signed.xbe, are different builds of the same program.
- A moves to the next test and B to the previous one. X and Y change the video mode, White jumps to 720p, Back shows the help screen and Start pauses.
