Hi Well back to my childhood i used to mess around with the usual Playstation stuff (PS2 PS3 & PSP). Since then i never bothered with anything up until today.

Since Covid-19 we have exhausted all our DVD's and my son has a PS4 but no games for a 10 yr old girl. I bought a 2nd hand PSP 2003 with a few games which are mainly for grown ups. I thought of upgrading the firmware but it seems it has been done to v 6.61. I don't think it has been hacked. But i can't get the wireless network to work.

Whilst looking for some videos i found an old PSP v1000. I can't update it for some reason so decided to ask for HELP!!!!
I want to be able to copy/download games onto a memory card for her to play.

Any help would really be gratefully appreciated please before she does our heads in :)
Kind regards
Tony (UK)

Hi all. I am also looking for a PSP 1000 User Manual & the PSP 2003 User Manual. Googled them but not lucky. One final question. For some reason I am unable to access the Internet with either of them. I have turned WiFi on but the when i select SCAN on WLAN Settings the PSP finds the network SSID but everything is greyed out??
Thanks

Hey and welcome, this guide should teach you how to Custom Firmware on PSP 6.61.

As for WiFi the PSP is old now and doesn't support WPA2 (AES/TKIP) encryption which is probably what your router is using.

You'd have to modify the WiFi security settings on your router to something the PSP supports (presuming it lets you), you can use:
  • WPA/WPA2 mixed (AES+TKIP or TKIP) - the PSP should connect using WPA which it supports and your other devices can use WPA2
  • WPA-PSK (AES, AES+TKIP, TKIP)
  • WEP-PSK
  • No encryption
Personally for old devices I just have an old access point running a WEP encrypted wireless network I plug in when I want to use my DS or PSP online. It saves messing about.
