Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive Security Sector Download (HDDSS.BIN) (HDDSS_120GB.BIN)

Hi there,

I have a problem with my harddrive, no waranty left on it..
It's a 120GB HDD from an Elite 360 console,
after applying the 13599 update trough USB, something went wrong in the 2nd part of the update.
Therefor the update did not complete fully. (it díd update to dashboard 13599)
My problem now is that with the harddrive in, it takes one minute to load the dashboard.
without it, maybe 3 seconds.. I tried on other 360's with no luck.
Also tried resetting the update, did not work either.. (with help of the xbox support line)
I tried formatting the hdd, which seems to work at first, but after that it keeps saying:
disc unformatted in the memory screen (each try to format succeeds, but with same results)

My actual question is: I'd like to hook the hdd up to my notebook trough eSata, and do a lowlevelformat,
check the disc for errors etc. From understanding, this I'll also erase the possibility to hook it up to the 360 again..
Is it possible to use your software to make it able to hook up on the 360 again after I did everything on my notebook?

It is untrue that formatting an official 360 hard drive will make it impossible to hook it up to a 360 again. With the latest hard drive that got an E68 error (official hard drive) I hooked it up to my PC and literally installed Windows 7 to it, put it back into the 360 and it said 'unformatted device' so I formatted it and then it worked perfectly fine. I tried to format to FAT32 and the 360 wouldn't accept it, installed Windows 7, which I can only assume it formatted the drive to NTFS and then was able to format it back to a normal 360 hard drive, so you may want to format it to NTFS.

Please Help

This the the HDD that i ordered. Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD1600BPVT 160GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive. Is this a compatible HDD. I have tried both the xbox 360 120gb hard drive security sector, and xbox 360 250gb hard drive security sector. both with HDDHackr v1.22 Build 20091022, and also v1.3. when i do it does not find the hard drive when i try and run hddhackr from dos. Can someone please help me, i might be doing something wrong or i might have bought the wrong HDD. im not sure but if i did buy the wrong one let me know exactly what i need to look for when buying a HDD. thank you and have a great day.

I only got 1 question this file is only sector 16 to 22 or is the complete 120GB HDDSS.BIN file??
 
Its only the security sector, needed to flash. Its not a complete dump of a 120gb drive if that's what your asking.
 
hi, i would like to change a WD standard hdd to work in my xbox 360..... my question is:, what format has the hdd got to be i.e. "fat", "fat32" etc etc before i flash the hdd and change the hdd security sectors. thanks in advance :)

thanks rick, followed insane nutters post on how to turn a 250gb hdd into a 250gb xbox360 hdd. My hat goes off to insane nutter for a super guide that was easy to follow and i just turned my 160gb hdd into a 120gb xbox360 hdd :D gonna do same to a 250gb hdd when it arrives next week.... many thanks to insane nutter and rick for replying back. cheers guys

old thread but i have just tried this meathod with a WD Scorpio Series BEVS 120gb hardrive and all went well till i put i into the xbox and its shows as only 8gb? its is showing up as a fujitsu drive in my pc now which i think its meant to

Follow these steps to format the drive.

Important When you format a storage device, it erases all of the information saved on that device and can’t be recovered. Make sure that you don’t want the information stored on that device, or that you’ve backed up the information to another device before you continue.

To format a storage device

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.
  2. Select Storage or Memory.
  3. Select the storage device that you want to format, and then press Y on your controller.
  4. Select Format. You will see the following message:
    This will delete all content on this device. Do you wish to continue?
  5. Select Yes to format the storage device.
  6. If prompted to enter your console serial number, do so, and then select Done. This step helps guard against accidental formatting.
The console serial number is located on the back of the console, and behind the oval door on the front of the console.
