Can I use regular cabels/adapters to connect my Xbox360 to PC monitor or would I be better with a first or third party XBox360 VGA cabel?

Well regular VGA cables don't work with the xbox because the console itself does have it's own connector.
You can buy a third party VGA cable. There is no difference between a third or first party Xbox 360 VGA Cable.
It's the same with HDMI Cables. A cheap 1 meter HDMI cable gives the same picture quality as a 100,- HDMI Cable.
