I'm afraid today is the day where we must announce that we have renewed the Minecraft Server for the last time. This means, the server is in its last 30 days before it will be going for good.
While this may come as a shock to some of you, others would have long seen this coming. Over the past 2-3 months very few Admins have been on, we haven't been whitelisting over the past month and the server is near its death. Sadly while it could have stayed strong, its true that most of the driving force behind it have long since lost interest in Minecraft, myself included. With the entire Admin team bored of the server, and avoid going on it as time and time again everytime an Admin joins they get harassed with stupid questions from people who haven't heard of Google. It's even got to the point where Admins IM accounts where being given out in the server by players to other players or new people to harass the Admin team at work, school and other places with again, useless Minecraft stuff. Also the cost has continued at $40 a month for the server, which donations dried up a few months ago meaning all costs are being paid for out of one Admins pocket. As such, hosting a public Minecraft server has gone from a joy, to a pain.
Many of you have been reading the forums and followed progression on the new Minecraft Server 'Fresh Start' plan, and while thats still going ahead, I'm afraid were also announcing today that the plan for that is changing and sizing down. Instead of allowing anyone who played in the old server in, we will be taking the game into the private invite only realm and will only be inviting around 10-20 players at most to start with. The players invited will be those who have established good friendship with the Admin team, or have donated or done a lot for the current server. This is not done to disrespect other players who may have not donated or gone out of there way to become friendly with admins, but the truth to the matter is our new Private server is going to be low-spec, and low-maintance and we can only take a few trusted players. There is no way we can take the entire user base from our current server. The new Server will be run from a private computer at my house and will only have the resources to handle 6-10 players at most concurrently and the reasons for the first server closing still stand that there will be little to no Admins in the server. Again, requiring us to only have players we trust as we will not be spending our days policing (infact, if there is any grief problems, the player in question will lose there whitelist and never be allowed back).
As such, for the next 30 days I suggest players enjoy what they can. No new players will be whitelisted to the server and we are to begin to stop advertising it places. For many of our players, this will be the point where we will part ways in good terms, and thank everyone for spending the last year of there life in our Minecraft Server. For those of you who are expecting an invite into the private server, its time to make yourself known by replying below. We will announce the finalized list for the private server in a couple of weeks.
Out of interest, I'd like to announce that over the past year, we have regularlly been in the top 50 list of Minecraft Servers, and always in the Top 100 which is a great achievement by all!
A big thank you to all our players, and we wish you all the best in the long term. Thanks for over a year of Minecrafting! Please feel free to discuss the topic and share your experiences, thoughts and so on..
Edit: From talking people ingame, it appears selected people are reacting badly, mostly out of a misunderstanding. The new private server is invite-only which means that you can't just randomly find the IP and enter. You required to be invited. Existing Players can invite friends in (with maybe a limit of 1 a month or so). This basically means, to join you have to know someone else already in. This takes out the random griefers who randomly join, or the people that appear, don't do much and disappear. It's not that the people in the original list are the only people who can play in it full stop, but are just a list of people who will start with permission. If your on the list and think were missing someone, just invite them and they can join in. Its basically a change from public anyone can join, to private where you need to be whitelisted to be able to join, but someone in the server already can invite you.

and all other cool buildings that the old server had i would like to be in server when it turns into that kind of server again.
)
even though, when i first joined the server way back in 1.1, it was nice only having up to 10 people on at any given time and everyone being good friends, i like the server we have at the moment, ive met some great people, invited my friends and have had loads of good times with everyone that comes online. Especially now i have got the Mod rank ive been meeting even more people and have made a few more friendships in-game, and i wont like it at first not seeing them on anymore and only ever seeing the same 20 or 30 people but i know that we have to do this as of the cost and boredom of the game (which is now partially coming to me as there's nothing more for me to do except sit at spawn afk until a new person comes on and i give them a tour or somthing along those lines) anyway, this is starting to get a bit long so ill finish it off by saying I'll miss all of you who dont get into the new server
But no problem, I'll try to do my best!
