Basically if you owned a premium 360 then upgraded to an elite you are entitled to a free data transfer kit which will copy all the content from your 20gig / 60gig hard drive to the elites 120gig hard drive.

Now here is the nice bit, the transfer kit can also be used to copy content to and from the 360’s hard drive using a PC. This will also let you backup your save games safely on your pc, especially useful for those games that dont let you copy the save to another device *cough* games by rare such as PDZ and Kameo. *cough*

Anyway here is the trick, go to the Xbox.com | System Use - Hard-Drive Transfer Kit for the Xbox 360 Elite System website and click How to get your free transfer cable (PDF). [Edit 02.03.17 - Link removed, i don't think this is possible anymore]

The website I link to above is for the UK / Europe however I believe the transfer kit is offered for free in other regions too. If anyone can post links for them I’m sure it will help some one out.

Basically for the elites serial number just write “on order” and fill the rest of the page out as normal, you must have a valid serial for either a core / arcade or premium console.

Thats all, after you have posted it off you should get a transfer kit 2-3 weeks later.

When you get your transfer kit why not have a look at thise guide to learn how to extract content from the 360’s hard drive.

You could even help with some demo requests and upload them to Digiex - Digiex 360 Demo Requests

Nice article sir. This would be good for those that aren't upgrading their consoles at all. For some reason when I placed my order for the transfer kit, they ended up sending me two. I got one kit, and then another came in the mail about a week later. Microsoft's loss ;).

Great, too bad that I live in Romania and here there are no authorized retailers for Xbox360 and I had to lie regarding my location when connected to xboxlive, said I was an UK resident. Damn my country, and I really neaded one to transfer my data from my pro to my brother's elite.

On the Australian Site, it lists the Cable will be $19 as from January 2010, but will be packed free with the 120gb HDD.
