Once BadUpdate has done its job on a retail Xbox 360, FreeMyXe is what you want waiting for it. Emma (InvoxiPlayGames) and others wrote it to patch the console in memory so homebrew can run from the dashboard, show your CPU key, and launch XeLL. It also supports internal drives over 500 GB through Eaton Works' Bad Storage.

Download FreeMyXe 1.2

XeLL Reloaded (a36ed6b, 12 September 2026) and BadStorage come in the same package.

What you get:

  • Your CPU key on screen. Write it down.
  • Unsigned homebrew, such as XeXMenu, launching from the dashboard.
  • Homebrew can reach the hypervisor and CPU key as it can on a modded console, which tools such as Simple 360 NAND Flasher need.
  • Devkit-signed and encrypted XEX files launch without patching, and the ring-of-light and controller sync problem BadUpdate can leave behind is fixed.
  • Xbox Live is blocked while patched. Disconnect the network anyway before you run the exploit.
  • From 1.2, original Xbox games launch without the separate OGXboxPrep.xex.

Setting it up:

  1. Prepare a USB drive with the BadUpdate files (BadUpdate 1.3 is on Digiex).
  2. Extract everything from this zip into the BadUpdatePayload folder on the drive and rename FreeMyXe.xex to default.xex.
  3. Run BadUpdate. When FreeMyXe appears, note the CPU key and pick what to patch or launch.

FreeMyXe.ini lets you skip the prompt: set Default to patch to patch automatically, or to xell to boot straight into XeLL. XeLL for the 2f console type (xell-2f.bin) is already in the folder; for the other types put your own xell-1f.bin or xell-gggggg.bin in BadUpdatePayload. Like BadUpdate itself, none of this is persistent.
