FreeMyXe is a payload for the BadUpdate exploit by Emma (InvoxiPlayGames) and others. Once BadUpdate has run on a retail Xbox 360, FreeMyXe patches the console in memory so that homebrew can run from the dashboard, shows your CPU key, and can launch XeLL. It also supports internal drives over 500 GB through Eaton Works' Bad Storage.

This is the official FreeMyXe 1.2 release, unchanged. It is bundled with XeLL Reloaded (a36ed6b, 12 September 2026) and BadStorage.

What it does:

  • Shows the CPU key on screen. Write it down.
  • Lets unsigned homebrew, such as XeXMenu, launch from the dashboard.
  • Lets homebrew reach the hypervisor and CPU key as it can on a modded console, which tools such as Simple 360 NAND Flasher need.
  • Allows devkit-signed and encrypted XEX files to launch without patching, and fixes the ring-of-light and controller sync problem that BadUpdate can leave behind.
  • Disables connecting to Xbox Live while patched. Disconnect the network anyway before running the exploit.
  • From 1.2, original Xbox games launch without the separate OGXboxPrep.xex.

How to install / use:

  1. Set up a USB drive with the BadUpdate files (BadUpdate 1.3 is on Digiex).
  2. Extract the contents of this zip into the BadUpdatePayload folder on the drive, and rename FreeMyXe.xex to default.xex.
  3. Run BadUpdate. When FreeMyXe appears, note the CPU key and choose what to patch or launch.

Not included: Put your own xell-1f.bin, xell-2f.bin or xell-gggggg.bin in BadUpdatePayload if you want to launch XeLL for your console type. Like BadUpdate, it is not persistent.
