PS2BBL, the PlayStation 2 Basic BootLoader by israpps, is a flexible boot loader for the PS2 and the PSX-DESR. It handles the console's system initialisation and runs ELF programs from a configuration, so a memory card or hard drive can boot straight into your homebrew. The 11 February 2026 build (commit d2e81fa) lets you stop the disc at start-up.
Download:
Download PS2BBL (11 February 2026 build)
The zip is the project's PS2BBL.7z, unpacked: builds for the PS2, the PS2 with an internal hard drive (PS2_HDD), the PSX (PSX) and the PSX with MMCE memory card emulation (PSX_MMCE), each in a normal and a compressed (COMPRESSED_) version, with the icon files, the README and the licence.
How to use:
Pair it with Open PS2 Loader. Project page: github.com/israpps/PlayStation2-Basic-BootLoader.
