So you mean that I can connect an up to 2TB external hard disk on the front usb ports of xbox360 console and use this Hdd to install games?

How is that possible since the hdd will not be hacked?

Can it be a hdd of all manufacturers or does it have to be of a specific one?

One more thing my console is an xbox360 fat (I have hacked the dvd drive) so I can play hacked games (not interested in original or Xbox Live).

My Dashboard is : 2.0.17349.0 could you give me the latest dashboard update to apply to my console (without loosing the hacking in the Lite-on dvd drive).

Please bare in mind that I need to do that offline (from a game that applies the dashboard update, or from a usb stick).

Thank you again for all the help.

Using external hard drives on the Xbox 360 is a very recent thing compared to hacking hard drives, Microsoft released the 17349 update on April 30 2015, which allows up to 2TB hard drives connected to a USB port to be configured for Xbox 360 storage. So your on exactly the version you need to be. This is essentially like what was possible with 16gb USB thumb drives, just with a much higher limit.

See this tutorial here, simply use a hard drive up to 2TB in size instead of a usb thumb drive: How to configure a USB memory stick to be used as Xbox 360 storage

You need one of the supported Western Digital hard drives, you can't use any other brand unfortunately.

Does this process affect a flashed/modded DVD drive? More specifically, does this revert the dashboard to an earlier version in which case one would need to update the dashboard (restoring stock firmware) to play online again?

And lastly, one could move all content/profiles/etc from the old hard drive to a USB flash drive temporarily then all that would need to be done is backup Partition 2 to enable Xbox 1 games? This would cover all backing up/restoring correct? Or are there certain items incapable of being moved to a USB flash drive?

Hope this makes sense, thank you very much for the guide and help with these questions!

    1. It has nothing to do with the dashboard / dvd drive so you are fine there.

    2. You can do this, however certain games do not let you move the save. As for which i couldn't say.

It should be, if you have problems its usually down to the sata chipset on the PC you are using to hack the hard drive.
