Eight and a half years in and the PS3 is still getting updates. Here's 4.75.

Download PS3 System Software 4.75
Copy the PS3 folder from the zip to a FAT32 USB stick (it has to end up as PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP), plug it in, and choose Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media. Don't switch the console off while it installs.
If the PS3 won't start, the same stick works from Safe Mode: choose System Update there instead.
