Okay I'm having a problem I'm trying to purchase us 1 year gold on xbox live marketplace but everytime I go to buy with PayPal it just says "we can't process your payment."

Now is this because on paypal I haven't transferred money from money from my debit card to PayPal or can I just buy it from my card linked to PayPal?

Are you trying to buy it out of region? Your best option is still Gift Cards as Microsoft are clamping down on PayPal.

I want to pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II from the US Xbox Store. My account is currently set up in the UK and I can use my debit card and PayPal account just fine there. Are US Xbox Gift cards my best bet ? Do I need to change my account region ? Can someone walk me through the required steps ?

Using pre-paid codes / gift cards is the easiest way. The process is as described in the original post.

Worked like a charm. Didn't even have to change region on my console or Microsoft account. If anyone's interested I bought the gift cards from cdkeys.com below face value. You even get another 5% off if you like their Facebook page. I got $75 worth in gift cards for about $65. Thanks for this guide !

Just wanted to confirm if this also works for xbox live/gold (that is you can play online & get discounts without the need of a VPN)

I can confirm this still works in 2021. I did however have to redeem the US code in a private browser window, connected to a US VPN.

Now i'm not sure if that's because I ended up with a cookie with my location outside the US. I'd tried to first link my UK debit card, then PayPal (both wouldn't let me purchase saying the Payment method didn't match the region).
