Hello, i got a question for the psp 1004 phat
its has OFW 6.39 atm and i want to update to 6.60 and then CFW
Do you need a magic gate supported memory stick for updating OFW and installing CFW?
Atm the only memory stick i got is a 32mb with magic gate will this work?
    Thanks in advance.

I dont think it matters for updates from what i remember, it was used as more of a DRM for purchased content.

Games should save fine without you doing anything extra, do you have enough space on the memory card?

I actually just completed the process - followed your steps and now i cannot connect via USB or view my Firmware version or anything under the System tab. The unit freezes then powers off - please help

In addition the volumes are dimming and brightening instead of volume

Did you permanently flash the CFW? or are you just using the fast recovery mode?

Turn your PSP totally off (hold power button down for 10 seconds) now power it on holding R, do you get in to the recovery menu?

You could try this PSP recovery pack someone put together here many years ago: PSP Recovery Pack Download - it includes the 5.00 update and a 5.00 CFW. I believe from 5.00 CFW you can then reset the PSP to factory settings and will have no problems updating, remember flashing is always a risk so keep that in mind, it has been a long time since i did anything with the PSP, however i'd hope you could fix it with that.

thanks for the assistance - i was able to flash back past what i had, the usb and system functions are working but the volume is still not. The warning is duly noted as this has been my only problem since i purchased my PSP.

Glad you got it sorted, you want to put emulators in the PSP\Game folder on the Memory Stick.

    Hello Mr Nutter,

I know this is an old thread, but i'm having an issue. Every time i put the CFW files on to the PSP it says that they are corrupted files. (I've tried multiple memory cards & a different CFW file download location as well as both the CFW 6.60 and 6.61 variants (i updated the OFW when needed)), yet it still says corrupted files. It recognizes and runs the OFW updates fine. Not sure if you know what the issue is but would be greatly appreciated if you could help!
