Do you have a Play & Charge Kit ?
When yes, then turn your 360 off, your 360 will goes in standby mode and will charging your rechargeable battery in your D-pad. In this time you can transfer (extract) the demo to your computer.

If a component / composite or vga cable is not connected to the 360 it will switch off after a few minutes, if you are using a HDMI cable make sure your TV is switched on.

Are you using the 60gb edition of xplorer 360?

You need to use the version for the size drive you have.
