Thanks for posting this guide but I'm running into this problem. I took out my laptops harddrive, put in my scorpio, flashed it, and it works! I then bought a molex to sata converter for my desktop then put in my old xbox hdd. I loaded up xplorer360 no problem and dumped my content folder and backed up my partition 2. After this was done I disconnected my old xbox hdd and tried to connect my newly hacked scorpio, but my computer is not recognizing it. I know its getting power and makes these small noises when running but it ultimately fails at the bios screen. After I that i put the hacked drive back into the xbox to check it and it works there. I reformatted it in the xbox in hopes of fixing the problem but no avail. It still won't recognize the scorpio BUT it does still recognize my old one. Any advice to why its not recognizing the new drive?

When I did it, it didn't recognize the drive in windows or in the BIOS. However, when I got into windows and loaded up xplorer360 and opened the hard drive it detected it and was able to load files onto without any problems.

Hi guys, First of all great post it is very informative. I do however have a couple questions. I am looking to replace my launch xbox 20gb with the new slim 4gb, but want a bigger hard drive. So If follow this guide and put my own hard drive in the new xbox is there a chance I can get completely console banned on xbox live, like when I'm playing halo reach or cod for example? or can I jsut get hard drive banned or no ban at all?

    Thank You

It would be much easier to look one page back than to post a question. You will not get banned for this.

I just bought 250GB BEVT HDD (October 2010), run hddhackr ... everything OK, but my Xbox show no disk... (when I plug in the old 20GB it works OK), I even tried to hack it on another PC, also OK, but same problem in Xbox... No disk. So I guess some of the 2010 drives really doesn't work. I'll try to buy BEKT or BPVT.

Update: I tried all of my 8 SATA port (IntelĀ® P965 / ICH8) and no go... The other PC has MB with Intel P31 / ICH7 chipset.

I have a 250GB BEVT with a 15th September 2010 manufacture date, partitions made by hddhackr and it works fine (P35, ICH9).
After that I booted back into windows, restored partition 2, copied over most of my old stuff and then connected it to the console, no problems there.

A week or two...or three difference in manufacturing date really won't make a difference.

Did you boot up the machine after flashing?
Maybe a host protected area added to the HDD confused it so the console won't recognize it now. If HPA is added, it's during the PC's boot sequence and it can cause slight LBA changes which the Xbox doesn't like and can refuse to "see" the HDD. If you did restart after flashing, did you go into hddhackr again to compare the newly flashed drive to the HDDSS.BIN file you used? They should be the same.

What I'm trying to say is, it's very unlikely that the HDD itself is not good anymore for flashing, and that there could be some other problem.

Is there any reason to believe that the new dashboard update will detect and disable a drive singed by hddhackr?

I did everything... disk is recognized as Hitachi, I can even recover partitions from the old one. Now I tried AMD780 chipset and the same story... Hack went smooth and quick, but Xbox sees no disk. I might have an idea where is the problem... I think I have different LBA (can't confirm it right now). I'll be back with update in a few hours.

UPDATE: I've managed to hack Scorpio Black BEKT (BEVT allready returned) with an old VIA chipset (Intel 965, P31 and AMD780 showed different LBA), Now the LBA match with Hitachi's LBA... What a story :)

Ok..... so before I set up my new drive, I put the original 120gb into my Slim, and all was fine & dandy.

Anyway, I did all the steps (and set up 250gb on a 320gb) and finished copying everything onto the new drive, popped it into the Xbox, and it's only showing the 4gb built in mem.. & guess what, it won't recognize the old 120gb drive either???

Hoping I just need to put the vent cover back on & maybe then it will look... !

Anyway, if that does or doesn't work, earlier I let my computer inject the entire content folder into partition 3 on the new drive, but there's nothing there.. so I guess I have to create that on Part 3 & then drag everything into it from where I saved it from the old drive?

Great, it still isn't recognizing the old drive with the vent cover thing back on! F!

Ok so like WTF??? I reassembled the old drive & the 360 Elite will not recognize it either!!!!!!!! ?!?!??!??! they are both seen on Xplorer as having content....... but they are not being detected by either the Elite or Slim.

Ok so I'm on a Gigabyte MB.. am I now F-ED? Did it add an HPA during boot or something? I have everything backed up, but like I said, the 120 & the 320 flashed as 250 are no longer recognized in either the 360 Elite or the Slim..........only on the PC through Xplorer.

I never restarted the computer, always shut down when instructed, and always shut down when disconnecting and connecting the drives.....

    ___

K just flashed UNDO.BIN from original flash.... & now when I reboot to flash again it had some weird error on the USB stick....... great.

"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

I ran UNDO.BIN on MY harddrive. that really really sucks. at least all my pictures are on my macbook and my external usb HD. !

still getting the error message with the USB drive and 320gb drive connected......... maybe my drive is okay? We shall see! I had unplugged only the power cord from it, not the data cord, so hopefully it's ok and maybe I just ran undo bin on the flash drive or something LOL

actually it said hitachi when i ran undo bin.... . hmm windows is still there..... i thought the power cord was the shorter connectors of the two in horizontal length? maybe it was just the data cable that was connected but no power went to it so it didn't do anything? idk why it still showed up if thats the case...

I think I found something here: "once u get that message power off the pc remove the hard drive... (DONT POWER IT ON AGAIN WITH THE HARD DRIVE CONNECTED AFTER U POWER IT OFF)

Reason for this is because most modern motherboards inculiding my gigabyte p45 with ICH10 southbridge create that measly small 2mb hpa at the POST process which i thought was created by Western digital... so my appologies for previously stating that it was created by western digital.

Hope this helps many of u... It took me a freakin month to really figure out what is going on with the drive. "

Great now I keep getting, "No ATA devices present!"..... trying to hddhackr on the new drive to UNDO.BIN again since it didn't run the first time. It sees it in the BIOS....

ok, it recognizes the original 120gb drive in hddhacker, but not the 320gb........

Hmm it picked it up after I did the other one, thank god LOL

    OK I figured it out.

My gigabyte motherboard did in fact play a role.. It does add HPA and change the LBA.

This time after I flashed, I popped it right into the Slim, and it is visible has a HD with 228gb free.

So now I just have to plug it in once in Windows to avoid HPA when booting up.

however, I just plugged it in and it isn't detected....it has to be there on boot i guess UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm also going to use Xport 2.12 or w/e instead of Xplorer this time.

Now one question remains: how do I wipe and flash the original 120gb drive since it now has HPA?

    AH HAH!!!!!!

I needed to read all of this, and now will be able to remove HP F-ING A!!! and everything will work!

"Ok guys. I have some amazing news I got the sucker to b working. Here is how.

This is for all of you guys that have the firmware flashed but keep getting the LBA does not match error

The tools that i used were hddhackr 0.91b and MHDD as discussed in a post in this forum.

Here is what i did... I used hddhackr to flash the fw and it does the whole conversion but because of the difference in LBA, it wont say the drive is compatible with 360 and even if u try after that the 360 wont recognise it.

So this is what u do. Flash it.. reboot, run MHDD and in there you select your drive.. It will appear as fujitsu, and then u have 2 handy options from the many that u can use. #1 is rhpa (shows u the hpa size... what is the factory and what is user accessible) and the 2nd 1 is nhpa which removes the hpa present on the drive that causes the lba size mismatch.

For those of u that dont know what hpa is wikipedia explains it way better than me so wiki "host protected area"

once u try to remove hpa odds r that it will fail... Dont worry. Unplug the power from the hard drive (THE POWER ONLY NOT THE SATA) wait 10 sec and plug it back in and try nhpa again and it should work. that will remove the hpa and have the whole lba accessible to the user. once that is done just type exit and u will b back in dos.

To verify that this works, simply re run hddhackr 0.91b again and select the drive and it should tell u that u can run it.

once u get that message power off the pc remove the hard drive... (DONT POWER IT ON AGAIN WITH THE HARD DRIVE CONNECTED AFTER U POWER IT OFF)"

LINK:::: this solves the HPA Problems (well it should.... mine keeps failing even after unplugging)

Fix / Restore original 20/60/120 GB HDD after Xplorer ruins it

Hi guys so I decided to try this method out. I got to the point where you plug the hard drive you want to hack into to the CPU and boot from the flash drive. But when I type hddhackr the cursor just jumps to the next line and hangs there with nothing happening. I read to through the forums and some people were saying that you need to disable ahci etc. I looked into the BIOS and my motherboard is extremely complicated and I can't find any options to do that. My motherboard is Intel dp55wg if anyone e else had this board can you help me figure out why its just hangs at the point where you type in hddhackr

Ok so............ I finished finally & plugged in the new drive. It was recognized & says 179 GB remaining after copying everything onto it, but it's not detecting any of the files I put on it, it says 0 KB for each category =( IDK what to do now. It's almost like I just have to clean the new drive again & buy a transfer cable & do it that way lol

Just deleted mindex & that didn't do anything....

So I guess I should just buy the transfer kit. because right now no profiles are found and "no items" found for each save category all 0 KB, even though it says only 179 GB remaining.

    IDK?

I used Xplorer 360 Xtreme to do Part 2, then I closed it and used Xplorer 320GB to drag and drop the Partition 3 compatibility & content folders (I had to go into them and drop stuff folders at a time). Maybe I should've used the 250GB version since I don't have a JTaged console? It is a 320gb drive though.

I guess I'll have to start over and try the 250gb version, but will go back to sleep for now and hopefully someone will have some advice for me LOL, really don't want to buy the $20 transfer kit ugh.

Also, my 4.6 MHDD gives me the fail message everytime now, but it is actually working when it says that.

Ive not looked at this post for a while, however im glad you got the 360 to see the drive.

Your problem is likely the way you injected the files with Xplorer 360, have a look at the image in my post here. It explains the problem you likely have and how to work around it.

Well, the compatibility and content are both in root, and the correct folders are within those folders. I used the drag & drop method, whenever I would drop them into the corresponding folder it would do the "injecting folder" dialouge.

Yeah I tried it again and it still says no FATX drive or what not. Ill just have to borrow a friends' transfer cable. Atleast the Drive works with the 360! Cheers friends!
