I only have a laptop that has 1 SATA slot to flash my HDD. I see no problem flashing the new 250GB drive, as I can remove my laptop drive to flash it, but is there anyway for me to put partition 2 on the new 250 HDD? I have the MS transfer cable and an old 120GB HDD that I don't want to open as I plan to sell my old Xbox with that HDD after I transfer my save files. Also, if I download the partition 2 file from this forum instead of taking it from my old HDD, will I end up with the same thing?

Make sure to copy all of your stuff on to your computer, then begin the transfer on the xbox 360.This is the safest thing to do if something goes wrong. Then transfer partition 2 when you get another xbox360 hard drive case.

When you copy your files using Xplorer360, does the files stay on the HDD or are they transferred from the HDD to the PC and then deleted from the HDD. Reason I'm asking is I want to have a backup of my files on the PC, but use my MS transfer cable to transfer them to my new HDD. I only want to use Xplorer360 to transfer my partition 2 and make a backup of my saves.

I'm having a really weird problem. When I try using Xplorer360, after about 2 minutes of having it open, it closes and deletes the icon from my desktop. I've re-extracted it from the zip about 4 times now and the same thing keeps happening. My antivirus picks it up as a trojan, but I disabled it and it's still happening. Not really sure what's going on. :S

EDIT: I've been running it as admin also, still is doing this.

Hi all. I registered to say THANKS for a great, easy to follow guide. I got it on the first try and it is working great. I've installed new Vegas and moved all of my saves. The hard disk is WAY faster than a USB stick, that's for sure. Only issue I have is that I like it being upright and I'm afraid gravity will pull the disk out. But I reckon an enclosure will take care of that.

Hi, found this tutorial and I successfully modded a 250 BEVT.
Now, my 360 recognizes the drive and all seems good to go, but when I try to install games, it gives me disc dirty or unreadable disc errors.

However, it's not the dvd, it's the hard drive. Must be some error on it.
I formated the drive with the 360.
    Installed game A. NO problems.
Install Game B. I will stop around 55% saying dvd disc read error. Cleaned disc, always gives error at the same point.
I deleted Game A, then installed game B. Works no problem. Then I'll try to install game A, but it will say read error!
So there's some write issue on the hard drive I'm assuming, maybe bad sectors?

Formating with the 360 didn't work, what should I try next, formating with the pc? Anything special I need to do? I assume a low level format to fat32 or someting? Do I need to reflash the HD to its original firmware first? Or just formating it with the existing 360 will work?

    Hi
Had the same issue with my flash HDDSS.BIN not present.
Before that in the startup on usb stick it found the sata drive but after a second it gave me the error no ATA present ignored it cause i thought it has found the drive so what the hell, but when trying to hit F for flash it said HDDSS not present ok type error on file or corrupt file when downloading.....neeeeeee not so easy.Solution (might be a luck of rookie) I switched to first master sata on the controller for the WD 250GB and in the bios disconnect all other controller options for ide, raid, dvd etc. even if they arent connected physical just disconnect all except the sata that the WD is connected to......WORKED PERFECT
