Hack a 250gb, 320gb or 500gb Sata harddrive to work in the Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Slim

Just wanted to say did this Yesterday with no problem at all. So easy my kids could of done it thank you for the very easy to follow tutorial.

ive seen in some other guides in other websites, some of them tells that i have to format the hdd in xbox (and put in serial number) after i flashed it, some of them says no need to format, Anyone know if its ok without formatting it first? or better format it in xbox before transferring files?

i think its better to format in xbox 360 to make sure no errors happen later on.

Hi danilo

I saw the photo again. It is appear that the manufacturer is Hitachi. maybe u entered wrong number of SATA drive.
be sur that u disconnected all of hardwares connected then connect WD HDD and try again.
try to connect ur WD HDD to the same SATA cable that ur PC HDD is connected.
be sur that u rename (HDDSS_250GB.BIN to HDDSS.BIN).

experience is the best teacher. dont forget

That's the "Data from XBOX360 hddss.bin file"

There is something wrong with his drive or computer because hddhackr can't check the status

hi i have a wd1600 bevt 160gb which hdd sector would i use and is this hack performable on a sata laptop?

You would use the 120gb.bin
On my hp g60-519wm it would not work with hddhackr because of no ahci option in the bios. You could give it a try on your laptop, its not a guarantee it will work,if it doesn't try another pc or see if there is any ahci options in the bios.

Hi all, I've browsed through the first 6-8 pages and the last 4-6 pages and I;ve seen that you can use a dive larger then 250 but only use 250 of it in a console right???

Is there a way to use the full say 320 or in my case if possible 500 gig drive???Like i saw in someone elses post it just makes more sense to gat a 500 drive for a couple of bucks more and use that instead of a semi-limited 250 drive in the new 360-S.

thanks for the info on this and Looks like a great tutorial. I will most likely be utilizing this thread sometime soon when the new 360-S gets there from newegg.

Yes,use a drive larger than 250gb and ONLY use 250gb.
Keep your undo.bin for later use in a computer to use all gb.
You can't use 320gb or 500gb drive and use all of it until microsoft releases a official 320gb or 500gb drive but i don't see that happening for a long time.

ok, That sucks, Thanks for the answer...

next question, Has anyone taken a 250 and programmed it with a 120 program to use 120 of it then say a week later without any formatting (erasing data wise) changed the 120 partition thingy to the 250 one and have it all work the way it shoud??

Asking because that opens the possibility of getting a 500 and flashing the 250 then when m$ releases a larger drive it can then be re-flashed and expanded with out buying more drives?? Thanks and sorry for the questions I'm asking....

somehow i cant expand my partition 3 folder, anyone know solution? im using win7 64bit, toshiba core2duo, explore360 extreme 2.
Using xtafgui on my laptop gives too much random crashes. Ive turn my user setting into "no notification..."

Yes that works, and you could do that and upgrade in the future. You would loose everything on the drive though if you flashed a bigger security sector at a later date.

You need Xplorer 360 250gb edition for partition 3: https://digiex.net/downloads/downlo.../4488-xplorer-360-250gb-edition-download.html

TYVM :D
another questions, ive finally succed transferring my savegames and profile using usb flashdrive stucked in my xbox, i just plug in my old hdd, transfer to usb then plug in the new hdd and transfer the files to my new hdd. But my new hdd said i need to update to be able to play kinect, somehow i cant get passed this update-request with using my dvd games (thats what i did to get my kinect working with my old hdd)

Excellent write up. I have a question though -

I have a hard drive cloner - theoretically, can I use the cloner to clone one hard drive to another, provided they are both WD2500BEVT?

Thanks for the tutorial, worked like a charm. I just have one question though. Is there any way I can copy all of my music (mp3 and aac format) to the hard drive. I don't want to rip all of my cds yet again, and would prefer just copying them to the actual hard drive, and not having to worry about streaming via windows media player. Is this an option using xplorer360? Thanks for the help.

they would have to be both flashed and if your cloner can read the xbox360 filesystem it may work.

i don't think you can do that because there is no folder for mp3 unless you rip a cd and find the location of where it goes you could possibly do something
